Outremer 52 Splash & Test Sail (Ep.6)

🌊 Set sail with us as we unveil the moment our brand-new Outremer 52 sailing catamaran gets splashed into the marina at La Grande Motte! Team Outremer sets the mast and the standing rigging for the first time on this sailboat and North Sails immediately jumps aboard to install the mainsail and genoa.
The next day we jump on the boat for AWEN’s first test sail as she tries her new wardrobe and finds her sea legs.
While the interior of the Outremer 52 wasn’t complete yet for handover, we could definitely get a great feel for what it’s going to be like cruising the world on this boat that was designed to handle breezy days on a range of sporty conditions. We are excited to explore the capabilities of this vessel, and could notice the stability, responsiveness, and remarkable maneuverability. We definitely think AWEN will take care of us as we take on a circumnavigation!

Hello! We are Holly and Stephane 🇺🇸🇫🇷
We have made the transition from full-time software professionals from the SF Bay Area to liveaboard sailing explorers who always keep one eye on the weather and our hearts in a song. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52. We are working with Outremer in France (with the help of Google translate) to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speedtest, we are doing our first Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN stretch her legs and dance on the water. Join us as we share what we’re learning living without Amazon, (but with Starlink), and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our KZbin vlogging skills. Our goal isn’t to make our life a movie, it’s to give back to what others have shared with us, which is why we don’t monetize our channel.

It amazes me how well those sails fit that boat & the number of boat/sail combinations that do not. You will definitely get a workout for the first months sailing & learning, enjoying every damn minute! Love the black sail with the green, nice... subtle... Remember, 2 sailboats going the same path, are racing! Fair winds....

That's the sailplan of someone who knows what they're doing. Excellent choices. Only thing I'd do different is my sails would be white. Just personal taste.

That was helpful, thanks for sharing! We're planning on ordering the 3Di Ocean 700's in black and I was keen to see how they looked. I kept flicking back to the quote from North to compare and ours are very very similar. Whats your plan for heavy weather, ie. 50 knots?

We are still gathering our thoughts on that. The primary goal of course will be to slow the boat down. We talked to NS about a storm jib but the jury is still out on whether we need a new one or not. What are your thoughts?

Will do! They aren’t really racing sails, they are the 3Di Ocean series which are made for cruisers. We will be posting another video soon where North Sails explains this. They also covered it in our North Sails loft tour video if you want to check that out. 🐬
