Leveling Up Sailing Skills for a Circumnavigation on a Outremer 52 Catamaran

We are leveling up on our sailing skills and essential training for a circumnavigation on an Outremer 52 Performance Catamaran! We spent the last year waiting for our new sailboat to be built by spending three different weeks at Outremer Week learning the nuances for how to sail performance catamarans and getting critical training for a world circumnavigation. ⛵️ 🎓
Our learning plan included:
🌟 Sailing Navigation: We did a refresh on navigation and learned new topics like celestial navigation and using advanced navigation software for systems like Octopus from Adrena Software.
🌟 Seamanship & Maneuvers: We got better at sail trim, reefing, tacking, and jibing with precision, ensuring a smooth and efficient passage through changing conditions and, of course, docking and maneuvers in tight quarters.
🌟 Safety & Rescue: We learned crucial safety protocols and how to use the life raft and how to operate the safety equipment for long-haul voyages, including man-overboard drills, emergency procedures, and communication systems.
🌟 Offshore Maintenance: We learned how to diagnose problems on a sailboat and how to fix problems quickly in a challenging environment where you need to be self-sufficient.
🌟 Offshore Medical: We learned how to do major triage, diagnosis and how to approach a medical emergency while reducing risk to the crew.
🌟 Weather: We dove deeper into understanding weather patterns and forecasts, so we can make informed decisions and navigate through various weather conditions.
🌟 Diesel Engines: We learned a lot more about diesel engines, how to look for problems, regular maintenance and how they work.
🌟 Running Rigging & Rope Work: We learned a lot more about rigging and rope work beyond knots and fixes.
🌟 Energy & Electrical Systems: We learned all about the power systems on the boat and how to use energy most effectively.
By spending time on this training, we feel much more confident that we will be ready to start our voyage when our Outremer 52 Performance Catamaran is done and out of the factory.

Bonjour les amis. Intéressante idée que la « death zone ». Mais alors, si vous êtes au portant, vent au-delà de 100° AWA, et qu’il faut prendre un ris, vous faites comment ? En principe on est censés revenir face au vent, et donc franchir la « death zone ». Mais si on veut l’éviter, ce qui se comprend, alors il faut prendre le ris de façon différente. Sauriez-vous expliquer en détail la procédure que vous avez suivi avec un tel vent ? Au passage, vous êtes remarquablement mieux préparés que nous pour le Grand Voyage : bravo !

Salut, lien ci-dessous pour une bonne explication de l'angle de la mort sur un multicoque par Charles Caudrelier. Il y a beaucoup de marge entre un Outremer et un Orma 60, ou avec d'autres multi beaucoup plus puissants que les notres mais c'est quand meme bien d'y faire attention dans un gros grain et avec la possibilité d'une grosse acceleration. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJPVYWmuhM5pgdE Dans notre cas, le coach avait abattu et passe cet angle mais c'était avec mer plate et le bateau était a plat donc le risque était faible, et c'était mieux pour protéger les voiles.
