I think the game tries to run at 60 at all times, but will drop to 30 if it can't maintain 60. Which is way it is smoother in the Time Attack segments. As for the PPSSPP, you just need to overclocked the emulated CPU to get a constant 60.

if you're playing on PPSSPP, you can apply that same 60 FPS "cheat" that you described in your description. You also have a screen that's wider than 16:9 - there's an aspect ratio cheat for that too. EDIT: no 60 FPS cheats, the game already has a variable frame limiter, so you only need to overclock the emulator. :p EDIT 2: might as well post the 20:9 aspect ratio cheat here: _C1 Ultrawide 20:9 _L 0x203C9868 0x400E38E4 (the second value is just the aspect ratio in floating point, represented in hexadecimal [big endian byte order], so you're free to adjust the ratio to fit whatever device you're playing on. i.e. 400E38E4 is just hex-speak for "2.22222222~" [or 20:9])

You can play the ps2 version via aethersx2 which is superior to the psp version. Runs well on a flagship in the past 2 years.

I've got aethersx2 on my phone. The only game I've tried to run on it though is Sega Rally, which ran terribly on it, so I've never bothered trying anything else out on it. In hindsight though, it's possible it might just be Sega Rally issue, as I was trying to get it running on PCSX2 recently on my PC to get some video capture for a project I was working on and it ran terribly on that too.

To play Sega Rally on PCSX2, you have to run it in software mode. It’s probably the same on aethersx2

@@andrewT23 OK, so just gave Sega Rally a try in software mode. It un-fucks the graphics and gives the game a teeny speed boost, but it's still only playing at about half speed. Any tips to improve performance further? I tried disabling mipmapping and frame rate throttle, but it made no difference. Downloading an OutRun 2 SP ISO to see what that's like...

Yup, OR2 SP runs in slo mo too. Looks like I'm sticking with the (absolutely fine) PPSSPP
