@ 10:52 - i cannot remember the name of the arcade that this song comes from, but it was a top down racer (like Super Sprint) and that music was played during the game when you could tune up specific parts of the car.

This was a gem of a find. Thank you KZbin for recommending this. My only real suggestion here is maybe swap the motorcycle engine sound with something less "buzzy". Maybe a Kawasaki Ninja or Hayabusa one. You did a solid job picking the sounds of the other cars, but this one I feel could be better. Any chance to add the Arranged version of the songs in the game?

@@DatOneCat Thanks! Yes... I know. The problem is that I can only find 2-stroke engine sounds. If I can find some good 4-stroke samples, I'll be happy to replace these! I could reinstall Test Drive Unlimited and rip those... 😅

@@Sk1ds87 I always finish second to him because he is unbeatable. You should make the motorcycle playable by default. Also if the motorcycle looks too pixelated up close fade in the Racing Hero sprites that are modified to look like Hang On. I know it's some work but modding is fun!! You gotta do them hood and cockpit views for the cars so you have the best fan game ever.

I could edit the original sprites by doubling the amount of pixels, but that's indeed a lot of work. And I don't like doing art stuff. 😅 By the way: the cheat code for all the unlockable cars is gimmeall.

Your game may be on a 60 Hz time step for animation but is rendering at the limit of your CPU/GPU. If you press SPACE to pause the game during the rain scenes, then press PERIOD to frame step, you'll see for some frames the road & objects do not move -- which could be from the video capture software being out of sync -- however, in some cases the rain animates, implying the real cause is your in-game timing mechanism.

I think I know what's happening. I've capped the framerate to 120 fps. The road & objects movement are calculated in the fixed update of Unity, which is 50 cycles per second. However, the rain animation is made with the particle system which is probably rendered at 120 fps. I don't know how it works. I'm just glad that it's raining. Now that you mention it, I could probably cap the framerate to 50 fps, since more frames doesn't make the game any more fluent.

@@Sk1ds87 Oh you're using Unity -- yes, the fixed update would be the reason. It would do you well to be fully frame rate independent. Are you using the Unity physics components for anything? If not, you can lose the fixed update. Even if you are, you can still lose it, and just handle the collisions yourself -- you are in pseudo 3D anyway, so you don't need anything it offers.

@@Sk1ds87 Don't cap to 50 Hz -- on a 120, 240, or 480 Hz monitor, this looks unbelievable jarring. Also, on the typical 60 Hz monitors, going at 50 Hz means you lose sync for 10 frames out of the 60 for each second, which is also jarring.

Good likeness of the AVGN there bud 😄 I have noticed playing the current version of the game the time limit can be slightly unforgiving no matter what mode you choose and when your race against a rival you make one little mistake and you never be able to catch up again... 😢

It's not mine, I'm afraid 😅 I found this picture somewhere and modified it to fit in the game. I think I should add an extra difficulty setting, because many people think it's too hard, while I'm trying to improve the ai algoritm in an attempt to make sure that the opponent can follow me. 🤣

Thanks! Probably not. Mainly because ripping those sprites would be a pita, but they also have a different art style. All the previous games have a hand-drawn look to it, while the cars from OutRunners are clearly pre-rendered 3d models.

@@Sk1ds87 You pretty much got a super Hang-On remake by driving the bike in this game but if you make it have a medium-high res view like Racing Hero. As far as Test Drive you should go in the style of Test Drive 2 with a little bit better graphics like an arcade version. I wish somebody would remake NFS Road And Track Presents and just add a few more cars/higher detailed dash like PC version/a few more 3 segment point to points..... they should do it in the vien of Cruisin USA with 3 segment point to points across the USA/CANADA/South America. They or you(hint hint) could call it Road And Track Presents: Continental Drift.

There are different approaches and there is even an article about it. I took the 3d mesh approach without any prior knowledge, without reading the article and it was a whole lot of trial and error. And when the road was finally finished, I also had to put other cars on that road, which was another pita. In the end it all worked out, but yes, my approach was pretty hard.

It needs emissive texture / full-bright palette support, because you can barely see the taillights of the cars in the dark. And being stuck with "Pos 1/2" all the time is not very exciting gameplay. You should be able to race against a menagerie of different opponents, some who are exceptionally difficult. Trying to catch up from "Pos 3/10" would be more exciting.

I've made it look easy. Play it yourself. Lots of people are telling me that it's too hard. 🤣 Except for the highway stage. About the tail lights: yeah..... I know that they aren't very bright, but I've tried a couple of things in the past, but none seem to give me the result that I wanted. (I'm a driving instructor, not a programmer, so I do what I can with the spare time that I have.) About the opponents: Turbo OutRun was a duel, however I'm planning on making a new game mode with a full grid. Anyhow, if your opponent has a similar car as you, I just love how thrilling the racing can be. Something that I don't like about similar retro-games, is that you have to slowly overtake all opponents. Those opponents don't seem to race each other. While in my game there are very close moments that I'm battling for 1st place. The opponent is designed that way. When he is behind he's doing everything he can to get back to you, while if he's in front, he is slightly backing off so you can catch up.
