Hello and welcome to "The Unported Playlist"
So we decided to extend this playlist from 10 games to a bunch at this point!
On this episode we are looking at Outrunners from Sega. If you love the Outrun series and you haven't played OutRunners yet...as soon as you are done with the video go and play it! We count this as unported as even though there was a Sega Genesis release it's so far inferior to the arcade original it doesn't even feel like the same game! It's quite possibly my favorite arcade racing game ever.

Watching this video got me really nostalgic. The town where I grew up had a great leisure park, with this and a ton of other great arcade games at good prices to play (plus lazer tag, bowling, a kickass nightclub and a multiplex cinema - all gone now, thanks internet). SEGA had an awesome mainstream footprint back then, you couldn't walk into anywhere offering leisure activity and not see or hear their creations and branding, all largely forgotten now.

I miss those days. Giant arcades with games filling the floor. Now it’s just barcades for the most part which are fine but not the same

This game looks amazing! Definitely setting this up for emulation with niece. I love the "flexing so hard their clothes rip apart" at the end haha.

That music 5:18. I saw this game at a place called skateland in Omaha Nebraska when I was a kid. Never played it because I was too focused on the Xmen Arcade Game, and Simpsons.

This is the first time I've seen this game and all I can say is everything about this game is eye-catching~ There's a lot of details and life that makes it stand out so much it's really cool.

I LOVED this game at the arcades, I used to play with a friend before or after going to the movies, it's the perfect 2 players racing game, pure fun, I remember both of us yelling at each other about which direction to take, we could only but smile and laugh while playing. It would've been great having it ported to the Saturn (heck, even to the 32X), but sadly the cabinet experience is difficult to replicate at home.

Yes it’s unfortunate that by the time Sega had hardware in the home to faithfully replicate the game 2D games had fallen out of favor for 3D stuff. So many good games never got ported just because they were in 2D

@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, I keep dreaming that if the 32X had lived longer it could've been the perfect system for this kind of 2D games, being cheaper, people probably wouldn't mind play gorgeus 2D games instead of kinda crappy 3D ones.

The 32X was such a strange system even for Sega. Good idea but odd execution

I think, that if Saturn had a full life cycle (I mean not abandoned by Sega in 98) and had a decent success not only in Japan but in other territories (on a level of MD) we would reseve a lot of System 32 arcade port compilation. But in our timeline Sega struggled and didn't have time and resources for this.

This game definitely got ported on the Sega Genesis. Data East did the publishing in the US for some reason lol. But it wasn't a great port. However, what do you expect out of a game like that on the Sega Genesis.

Burlington, Vermont and I traveled to Innsbruck Austria a lot to the European office. I was in optics development (goggles, sunglasses, etc)

Yeah my sports life feels a long way from doing tech and gaming stuff. Feels like a diff lifetime ago I was at X-Games managing athletes lol. Now I manage game captures

The sega genesis port not even that bad gameplay wise but the fact that you are stuck in split screen even when playing by your self makes single player a horrible experience.

What do you guys think of Outrun 2006 on Xbox? It was the first Outrun I really played (Played the originals at some point when really young) so I quite liked it but I do still prefer the 2D visuals overall I think. is it respected by the fans?

There was actually a Genesis port! I never played it too much though so I can't say with any certainty how faithful of a port it is...
