Helmets are one of the few parts you don’t have to overthink. Make sure it’s comfy and think of it would be too hot while skiing
@Puzzoozoo Жыл бұрын
As I'm now retired, and a free agent, all-being-well I'll be trying skiing again next season and I'll be going into Europe - skied green runs three times before in Scotland, but the last time was 35 years ago. As I had my own boots the last two times I want skiing - long weekends with the Warrington Ski Club - I'll be buying my own [new] boots, and apart from socks, base and mid layers, I'll be renting everything else for this first season - 3 holidays. However, like having your own ski boots, is it worth it to buy my own ski helmet, [with goggles], as like the new boots that'll mould themselves to my feet, a new helmet will mould itself to my head, *OR* as on my first week/holidays I won't be going far off the nursery slopes, then green runs and then *maybe* an easy blue when I've got past the basics, would it be more cost effective to rent a ski helmet, before I buy when I get more confident on blues and get to go further into the mountains?

I live in an area that has no stores to try on helmets. Which brand tends to fit a head shape very similar to yours, kind of a narrower vs round shape? I'm 22.25" or ~56.5 head size?

Yes. Probably the best all-around helmet at any price would be the Salomon MTN climbing/skiing helmet. Good for hiking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and probably also works for mountain biking, as it has the same hazards, then rafting, and ice skating/rollerblading too. Though not ideal it will give the protection and ventilation, and be lightweight too.
@mashiro844 жыл бұрын
To me helmets are really too hot to be dressed most of the times I go skiing. Not enough ventilation; I use to ski in January without cap, just something to cover forehead and ears. In less then one hour I'm sweating a lot and the helmet cannot be removed from my head till the end of the day. I prefer a lighter one in order to wear something in cotton under the helmet that can be changed frequently. What's the best alternative for Summer Skiing? (I'm considering ski mountaineering helmets and road bike helmets but they cover the most the part of the head is almost useless in cover in my opinion).
@liammay44654 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean I used to get really hot but just had to get used to it because I know safety is important, until I got the Salomon pioneer C.air it’s got really good ventilation super comfy and weighs hardly anything, just saying if you go into a near by store and just try it out and see if it is for you. 👍

I’m on the limits between two sizes. Should i go up or down?
@maxalp61562 жыл бұрын
if really on the limit, you should go down, a snugger fit is way more safe and efficient on impact than a helmet that is too big and wobbles around on your head (it's also more comfortable). Just make sure your head is really not over the limit of the smaller helmet size. But really, to be safe, try the helmet on in the store if you're not sure what size to pick.

@Daniel Devine, Actually, most top end google/sunglasses lenses are made in just one factory in Italy (called Luxotica). Over the years, I've had loads of different goggles/shades. Everybody's eyes are different, so different lenses will work for different people. But these days you pretty much can't buy a bad lense from any reputable eyewear company. Bolle are great, their Modulator photochromic lense is very good. For me, Julbo goggles have always been great.

Can anyone advise for or against using a normal Bell skateboarding/biking helmet? I'm sure it's not AS good and not as warm, but any huge downsides? I also don't wear goggles so that's not a huge deal for me... I also understand that bike helmets are maybe built/rated for a single big impact whereas ski helmets are more resilient but I'm not sure how much that matters as I'm past my beginner stage and I don't try anything too crazy on the slopes.

@@w.bi11y Better vision. Goggles distort our view, less or more depending on the quality. I’m fine with the wind. The only benefits I’ve gotten from goggles is eye protection from snowfall, and warmth. I would never wear goggles on a day without precipitation and excessively cold temperatures.

wouldn’t recommend using a ski helmet for biking. if your road biking you will be VERY hot, and if your using it for mountain biking it won’t provide as much hard surface protection.
