It's clear to me as an Art Collector and this Art Fair Shows "Branding" is extremely important, these galleries and personalities are the tastemakers without them most of these artworks would be unknown and mostly worthless.

generally with even the most avant garde artists one gets this familiar feeling like they're still speaking your language, but proper "outsider art" has this feeling of an unmarked, isolated individual with highly personalized tastes stemming from adolescence and no recognizable influences or movements being followed. i think there is a lot of art that is appropriate to call "outsider art", like Henry Darger. It's the only good way to describe the way in which his art stands in relation to almost everybody else's

I like the idea of being outside the world of critics and dealers and anyone who judges based on trends and the canon. Investment and money laundering have deformed the fine arts world more than any other field of artistic endeavour. Real outsider art is pure and authentic.

This is a pretty lame show, agreed. Some outsider art is wonderful. These dealers don't really have the eye or the clout, I would guess. Bandwagon riders - after all, they are retailers of a product, they need constant supplies.
