In this video I went fishing with Trey Landry for choupique also known as bowfin, grendel, or dogfish. We set out to prove this fish is plenty good enough to eat despite its reputation as a trash fish.

I know its old video, but I presure canned one years ago. In the jar this fish looked like some pics of pink salmon, beautiful. We have canned them all, catfish, crappie, and grinned, thChickanic ats what we called them. Open the jar, mix with spices, meal and make patties. Good to go.

My Mother's family in north central Florida would trotline 'em out of the Alapaha river to add to a fish fry. They called them jackfish. They considered them to be a delicacy. I've eaten a fair amount when I was a kid and thought they were really good.

Creole tomatoes is a tomato grown in southeast parishes along the Mississippi River I know you from the parish if you passed southern natural gas plant on the way to Delicoix you passed just pass Toca on St. Bernard highway right next to it use to be a large commercial vegetable farm called the Galliano brothers I worked for them when I wasa kid picking creole tomatoes, okra, etc they had everything used to sell at the French Market then in the French Quarter it gets it taste from the river soil I find better tasting LSU AG center would have more info in 68 and worked there for 3 years while in highschool the Becnel brothers across the river in Bell Chasse, also the Gallo brothers in Meraux did also.

I had a chrome colored lipped crank bait. As soon as it hit the water, the gar and mudfish(shoepick) would try to destroy that lure. I didn't take long before their teeth was making the chrome peel off of it. If you have to put that much sh*t on it to make it edible, i'll pass.
