I love stealth games. I'm absolutely awful at them but there's nothing quite like taking 40 minutes in Sniper Elite 4 to tag enemies, place traps in choke points and prep your escape only to forget to equip the suppressor. Announcing your position on your first shot, you realise you've been surrounded in the time you were panic firing (and missing) targets leaving you only the option of SMG-ing your way out. Good times.

I think the problem with forced stealth sections is the following: Previous parts of the game do nothing to prepare you for stealth. The rules are often not very clear, as in, you don't really know how close you can get, how easily enemies detect you and what the consequences of detection is, and often the mechanics are not suited for stealth.
@ledumpsterfire64742 жыл бұрын
Nevermind often, the mechanics are borderline never suited for it.
@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro Жыл бұрын
I personally am the type of person to automatically default to stealth tactics as soon as I start a new game, as I much prefer out smarting something than facing it head on with my often weak noodle arms, so I’m usually perfectly okay with otherwise unforeseen stealth sections in games. What I do hate, though, is when a game makes it basically impossible in certain sections or most of the game to play stealthily, but then all of a sudden reverses this trajectory in favor of a totally unforeseen stealth section. Don’t teach me not to do something, only to change your mind later and force it upon me (these sections also tend to have horrible stealth mechanics, anyways).
@gabrielabatista601611 ай бұрын
@@ledumpsterfire6474even when they are, you're not prepared to it. BotW can work with stealth, it has the mechanics to do so, but it's just not fun so almost no one does it. I personally hates the Yiga section because I don't like playing with stealth. I only really started playing stealthy in TotK because of the smoke bomb mushrooms and the flowers that confuse your enemies that make it more fun to try being stealthy.

Oh yeah, I loved the Jackdaw to death, too. But even though I managed to get through that section with minimal difficulty thanks to lots of prior practice at the helm, I'll happily admit it's not an easy twist on the series' mandatory stealth sections -- it can be fiddly enough trying to park one Assassin in an inconspicuous spot, as you know, never mind an entire sailing ship. And unlike Assassins, boats don't do 'nimble'.

To mention the exact opposite, Dishonored does stealth really well! It provides the best ending for skulking around (mostly) unseen, and because the entire game is pretty much stealthable, it teaches you the mechanics early on so that by the time you reach Kingsparrow Island or my personal favourite level, the Hound Pits Pub, you are adept at using your surrowndings for evasion and invasion. Also, am I the only one who thinks more games need a level around the hub being taken over? Because it really rewards prior exploring via secret passages and shortcuts!

Perhaps the worst stealth I have ever seen: 'My Sims: Agents' for the DS. One stealth section which you can't skip, which involves being some perfect distance away that you aren't spotted and don't loose the guy (on a straight path)! Even more annoying, you can immediately work out where his base is without following him, but the game is adamant about making you retry it til you give up or die from old age.

@iScabs7 жыл бұрын
Also "torch" isn't a very good word for it as describing an actual wooden torch wouldn't be very easy with a british person "Oh yeah a torch. Not the electric one the wooden flamey thing that's actually called a torch"
@Czah57 жыл бұрын
Yes Jane, come to the dark side. mwahahahahaa
@InklanUtterfield7 жыл бұрын
+Chaotic_God That's not really true. In almost every use of the word the meaning can be deciphered from the context. I can guarantee that if the light went out at a friend's house and I asked them where they kept a torch they wouldn't tell me the garden. Similarly, any torch in olden times is obviously going to be the wooden one. In the exceedingly rare circumstances where the context is not obvious, you can do what the Americans did outright by adding another word to it, in this case, "wooden" or "electric". You know, in the same way that Americans permanently added "flash" to "light" since "light" alone is an incredibly ambiguous and illogical term.

The problem with that particular part with Haytham is that he is not very good at jumping at trees as Connor. When you do missions like that, later in the game, with Connor, is much more easier. But, of course, all Eavesdrop missions on Assassin's Creed are kind of annoying, specially when you have to move while listening and you are not an english speaking person and have to rely on subtitles to understand the story. There are a lot of major plot points that are revealed during moving eavesdrop sections, that you have to worry about being stealth and can't really pay attention to the subtitles.

Extremely helpful tip for VtM Elizabethan Rendezvous. There is a corrupt guard at the beginning, talk to him, to get limited access to the ship (just to the nearby monitor ) go to said monitor, cycle through the images on the nearby monitor until you have it on the Ankaran Sarcophagus *bam* mission complete, you just have to leave, oh bonus the crew manifest is right nearby. Do the mission this way and you'll finish all objectives and leave in less then 3 minutes. Honestly it's one of the easiest missions. Easiest one is where you gotta stop zombies from leaving the graveyard while the grave keeper goes out (go hide in a dark corner of the graveyard, no zombies will spawn). You are welcome. Oh and Human in life, Tremere in death Bloodmagic op.

@ZellyTheFangirl7 жыл бұрын
Even with the time reversal powers the section is pretty hard imho. Max doesn't move as fast as you might want and with no map, it's difficult to know what path to take or how the flashlight wielding "enemies" move. I recall feeling like every time I took a path I thought was safer than the alternative, surprise! Flashlight right around the corner. At times it feels like the easiest solution is just to keep rewinding them out of sight, walk until you get caught, rinse, and repeat until you get past, defeating the purpose of stealth and ruining the experience and mood the segment is trying to convey.
@PhaethonCrafts7 жыл бұрын
It's not hard so much as annoying. It's a point and click adventure...not a stealth game, it's just an obnoxious part of the game, that I'm not sure why was a necessity. Edit: The harder part is getting the optional picture in the stealth part.

"Execution is Everything" is one of the best titled missions in the Assassin's Creed series. I cannot believe I successfully completed it (with all side objectives) twice. Takes a lot of care to pull off. In later games, developers did two things. They decreased the number of tail/eavesdrop missions and improved the Eagle vision mode. Environment awareness is extremely important in those missions.
@iainjames035 жыл бұрын
There were a few mandatory stealth sections in *No One Lives Forever* that were maddeningly annoying as any kind of detection either by guards or cameras meant an instant fail (the office one springs to mind). It was just frustrating as the rest of the game often rewarded a stealthy approach but didn't punish you too much if you got detected.
