I feel the need to point out that the invisible Folding Screen Monkey is actually pretty well hinted at during the fight. First off, the other three are obviously working off of the "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil" thing, leaving just the last one, "do no evil". Second, you can hear the monkey walking around, but ONLY when you are moving as well. I actually found out about him by wandering into an area flooded with water, when I noticed that there was another splash just a second off from mine when I jumped in.

I think the second phase of the Guardian Ape is actually easier because you can just avoid all attacks and then deflect the overhead smash and then he's stunned for a bit giving you a large opening.

I completely agree with Luke, the Guardian Ape fight is so astounding and great. Especially first time you fight him completely. From the movement, to how he moves in the 2nd phase as a hint of what he actually is.. (spoiler alert kind of? He's not an Ape), just everything about it is incredibly memorable really, more so than almost any other boss ever.
