Testing Out 300k Diff Fluid In The V5 Arrma Typhon 6s

In this video I swap out the stock center diff fluid for some 300k and take the typhon on a test run. The Typhon is a whole new RC with 300k fluid.
Because I know you are going to ask, I used Mineral Spirits to clean the gears, and I just used a paper towel to wipe the fluid out of the diff case.

If you do blow the front/rear diffs, there are 2 easy fixes: stronger cross pins (people use 2.25mm or #43 drill bits or drill rod) and larger shims to better support the sun gears (which can fracture from time to time). As you know, nothing is perfect out of the box, but I've found these 2 improvements to beef up the durability of the diffs.

When I opened up my Notorious V5's center diff there was no oil inside. Also putting 60/300/30k in the Notorious is amazing! It performs so well.

I’ve only had rear diff issues with big tires. The notorious will have issues with rear diff. You may get lucky. Typhon tires are small, I’ve had no issues.

The Notorious is wonderful with thick fluid. My v4 is currently 30k front, silicone earplugs center and 30k rear. After watching your vid and my bash session today, I'm going back to 1million cst in the rear. It was such fun at the dog park/baseball fields with that setup

I changed myV4 Typhon centre diff to 300k oil today but haven't run it yet to test. There was only a tiny amount of thin oil in there so I expect a huge difference. I actually would have preferred to go around 200k but I have no 200k oil so it was between 300k and 500k and 300k was the safest bet. I have 500k in my Kraton 6s and that made a world of difference.

Nice! I ran 500k, 1mill cst and then eventually stuffed silicone earplugs in my Talion and Notorious. Definitely had to re-shim the front and rear diffs but it puts the power down so well. Almost too well sometimes 😬😂

Bought a 6s typhon roller a from a friend along with 2 2050kv, metal gear servo and a DST3 transmitter and a clear shell. Painted Black and yellow so can see better at a distance. Still adding decals as ik see fit. Not wanting any red on it.

@@surfside75 that would be much better for on road speed runs only I think. You’re turning is going to suck putting a locker in the rear and that thick in front. Also will be very hard on drivetrain. You could do the million center.

Hey bro, love the vids! If I can make a quick suggestion? I run my Typhon V5 with 50K in the front, 300K in the center and 30K in the rear diff. Even more control and even less power bleeding to the front wheels. Best of luck with the Typhon and keep up the good work

@@outsourcedrc I did break it on stock oil. Blew my rear diff's planetary gears. Since I moved to a thicker oil, I've had zero issues and I mostly bash on 6S with the 16T pinion. I also shimmed both the front and the rear tho.

@@gonzodetroitify I think the stock oil setup is too light when general bashing around. It is however very good for racing on carpet. I think it might've been a badly build diff right out the box... Those things happen I guess. I shimmed it on the diff itself on the side of the ring hear, between the ring gear and the bearing. The input gear felt tight enough.

I ran 100k oil in Ofna nitro buggy. I thought that was plenty. You get the back end to break loose but it wouldn't wheelie. 300k for me is high. However I might try 300k in my Maxx. The stock center diff oil is soooo friggin thick!

Looks like the 300k diff fluid did the trick. I have a kraton v5, but I really need to get me a buggy. The control is amazing looking. My rustler vxl has good control, but not like the typhon. Lol, nice tip!!.... I wish I had seen this vid like 2 weeks ago cuz I literally just redid the fluid on my center diff with the stock 10k fluid. And I have also noticed that it does burn the front tires a lot faster than the rears with the factory setup. I am however thinking about getting rid of the center diff & replacing it with the Limitless spool. I'm getting a titanium spool for my Limitless so I may drop the stock one into the Typhon 6S. The Typhon 6S is so far my favorite buggy to bash with, thing has serious ballz lol. I have been bashing it for almost 1.5yr now. I even put a castle MMX 8S at one point, insane power! 😆 Happy Bashing Bro 😎👍

After watching you play with this buggy i want one now but I really can't make up my mind if I'd rather have the typhoon or the talion 6s truggy/buggy or whatever it is. Those talions look wicked to its also supposed to run 70mph with optional gearing. I have a widemaxx this will be my 2nd hobby grade rc so I just wanna be sure ill be happy with what I get. Next thing or my 3rd rc will be a crawler.

I have not driven the Talion, but I'm sure its fun. I'm just concerned at how durable it is. I know my Notorious stays broken. It seems to me that Arrma does not do RC's with wide foot prints very well. I think its too much weight and leverage for their materials. The Typhon is a little beast though. You wont be disappointed with it.

My stock typhon does double backflips.... thats with the 2pt speed pinion. Top speed was 72mph with the 20t. Tried a 25t yesterday and only maxed out at 74. Super disappointed to be honest. Still stock 50t center diff. Might try the infraction v2 center 46t diff and try again. Now after watching, I want to take apart the center typhon diff and check the fluid!

Yes. Exactly. Think of it as taking the training wheels off a bike. Now you have more control. You can lean into turns, but now you have to have better control over the bike because you have no training wheels. That is what is happening here. Before, it was harder to spin the Typhon around because it wasnt getting a lot of power to the rear wheels. They would not break free, But now they do. So you have more control, but you have to be a better driver to not lose control.

Fun fact : the instructions that come with the typhon V4 recommend 100k diff fluid. But on the Typhon V5 instructions it says 10k diff fluid. I wonder why they changed that, maybe some stress issues on the central diff ? Anyway great vid ! I'm gonna try 100k fluid on mine since it has the same traction issues as yours out of the box.

I discovered your channel a couple months ago. I love your enthusiasm for trying out new vehicles. Now on the differential fluid, did you change the front and rear also? The center looks like it improved the performance. I’m looking for a differential fluid that can kind of accommodate speed runs, bashing (nothing hardcore) and drifting. I have the Hoons DBoots for the on road stuff and took a worn out set and taped them for drifting. My Typhon will probably be used on road but still want that flexibility to be able to do a speed run off road (grass or dirt). Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas on the Typhon.

@@outsourcedrc if I was just doing speed runs, I would set it up like my Arrma Limitless (1million in the front and rear-34 tooth spool and 27 tooth pinion ). That thing is a rocket for that application. I wanted my Typhon to be “Jack of all trades and master of none”. My reason for using it on the road is because it sits higher than the Limitless because Michigan roads are terrible and I still like going off road (swapping to the OEM off road tires).

I used Mugen Seiki in this. Diff fluid seems to be out of stock everywhere. I just googled "300k diff fluid" and bought what I could get off of Ebay. My Local hobby shop has been waiting months for diff fluids.

Yep. I'm actually going to put 1 million in the center and see what happens. i'll probably back down to 500k though. I have both fluids coming in the mail.

Maybe they do it to slow the rc down? Suppose it could be dangerous given to wrong person.then they not opened scrutiny if they hit someone or something. Just a thought tho.. ive thought about this ?? For years!.

I think they are trying to prevent the diffs from going out. I'm not sure.

Those stock diff cases leak so you may want to upgrade to the hot racing case

Or Vitavon diff cases with bigger output bearings. The integy cases are very nice in raw aluminum but with stock size bearings at a super price! $45each versus $100 for Vitavon👍

300k seems really good to me. You could go higher but I think 300k is the sweet spot.

I'll probably change the fluid in the front and rear diffs and see how it runs. Everyone is telling me to go 50 and 30.

That's a good setup. I personally like 80k up front and 30k in the rear, with 300k center. But I like more power going to the rear as I like to lay down them fat skids lol.

Okay so I thought the reason for the way it reacts is because the rear gets more traction so the rear shocks compress allowing the front shocks to decompress allowing the tires to come off the floor slightly more than the rear allowing the front tires to balloon.. guys please chime in I'm curious now

Yes kinda. The thin fluid makes that a problem. You lose your power to your rear wheels. The power goes to the path of least resistance.

I run 1mil in my center diff it’s like locking the diff but with still a bit of play. I do speed run on my typhon 6s
