British Heart Foundation (BHF) celebrated its 6th annual Heart Hero Awards on Wednesday 6 December 2023 at Glaziers Hall in London.
The annual awards celebrate the incredible supporters who go above and beyond for BHF, including those who have shown outstanding loyalty and dedication to further the mission of BHF over several years.
An Outstanding Contribution is showcased by supporting BHF through a variety of ways; including raising awareness of BHF lifesaving research and promoting our cause, achieving exceptional fundraising success, educating and informing the public about important heart health messages, or helping to shape our work to reflect the needs of patients and their families.
Davina Sim, who is now in her 80’s, runs the BHF Fundraising Branch in Cumbia.
The charity is very close to Davina’s heart after her husband died suddenly from a heart attack in 1987.
Over the years, Davina has raised awareness of heart and circulatory disease and has amassed over £60,000 for BHF’s lifesaving science by holding an annual golf competition hosted in local golf clubs.
The funds raised has not only helped support BHF research, but also treatment of lifesaving care as the money has paid for several defibrillators in her town, and toward the purchase of an echocardiogram ultrasound machine for the cardiology department at Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
