This was a great find. Louisa was really the first successful female author in the USA but has rarely been given the notice she deserves.

Nope. That was Harriet Beecher Stowe, whose wildly popular "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was published in 1852; the first volume of "Little Women" was published in 1868. Thinking purely of fiction by American women.

As a living history actress I am deeply indebted to all the biographers of Louisa. I suggest reading her letters and journals then her books. If you would like "Louisa" to be at your school, library, senior center, theatre or civic event, google "Marianne Donnelly Affordable Family Entertainment" to view a KZbin link to her accurate, joyful show, "Beyond Little Women," which has been enjoyed by descendants of the Alcotts and thousands of young audiences.
