Mike from The GO Outdoors Show Reviews the Outwell Montana 6P, and finds it to be one of the best large, steel poled family camping tents on the market.
Outwell are a Danish company who have a reputation for well thought out, bombproof family tents. The multi award winning Montana 6 has been around for a while, and the 6P (for premium) is kind of their magnum opus, Their great work. They've taken everything that was great about the old Montana 6 and made it just a little bit better.
If you haven't seen one before, they are a large wide bodied tunnel type tent with 2 good sized bedrooms that Outwell say can sleep up to 6 people and a spacious, flexible living area. It comes in a handy roller cargo bag and is simple to pitch. All the poles are the same length, you simply peg out the footprint, put the cross members in, attach the down members one at a time, and peg out the luminous guy lines. With a bit of practice you can do it in about 20 minutes.
The colour coded pegs are made of a plastic material that provides excellent purchase on soft ground, but can be easily damaged on rocky ground.
The Montana 6P is made from a tough, waterproof fabric, and is very well sewn together. For the price you want it to feel like a quality product, and it doesn't disappoint. There is a definite premium feel throughout, the construction and materials used combined with a host of neat features and design elements do set it apart from many of it's competitors.
