Ovechkin honoured with golden stick for 1000 point milestone

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and his family are honoured before Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Kings with a plaque, and inscribed golden stick commemorating his 1000 NHL points.

people are always so quick to say ovi is not the greatest goal scorer but never acknowledge how difficult the generation he's playing in. The fact that he's put up 7, 50 goal seasons in 10 years is remarkable and is 3 away from having the most 50 goal seasons in nhl history(in a much harder time period). Put guys like esposito, bossy, kurri in ovi's time and vice versa and we all know who'd be scoring more goals.

it's impossible to compare players from today to players from that era. I think he's likely the best goal scorer ever, but to say he'd score more than those hof's, is difficult. they train and are looked after much better today, and their equipment is far superior today. on the flip-side, goaltending is far better today.

A message to those who disliked this: How long do you guys want to stay salty about not having Ovechkin on your team? It's been nearly 13 years already! I'm sure you could have used that time to find your own franchise sniper than keep railing on how the Caps don't "deserve" Ovechkin and insisting he's "rightfully yours".
