Greg heads inland to the Australian Outback and decides to hike into the bush for a solo overnight adventure. He brings limited supplies, but still manages to catch and forage food for a satisfying cook on the water. Along the way, he marvels at wildlife only native to Australia, remaining cautious of the deadly snakes and insects that could end his trip early.
**Ovens Down Under Adventure Playlist** • Ovens Down Under
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

The start of the outback is probably another 4 or 5 hours drive north west of here. The landscape Greg is in is just what we call “the bush” and is quite lush in comparison. The official NSW “Gateway to the Outback” used to be at Bourke, but they moved it back to Nyngan, and rightly so I think. It’s where the red dirt/ Mulga country starts and becomes proper semi arid. It’s an obvious change beyond the Bogan River. It’s probably similar to describing ‘the tundra’ I’m guessing. Which has a rough boundary and can be described as distinct but variable types of landscapes, because of natural forces and phenomena. Love everything you do Greg. Humble, knowledgable, wise people are so great to spend time with, even if it’s through television. You’re a very calming human to me ❤

Hey Greg. I know the whole point was to show us how to use hot rocks to boil water and what not, but for the nettles, all you had to do is wave them over the fire a few times. That gets rid of the needles, and I find it even tastes better that way. Would’ve saved you an hour heating those rocks. Cheers

Ovens is here down under! Love it! Nice little creek there, those water dragons are fast as lightening and can vanish under the water for good amount of time too. I’d say that burrow, could possibly be wombats home. Ain’t no kangaroo that’s for sure, too big for fox. The Aussie heat gives the energy!! No way I’d survive in the Rockies with all that snow! I can imagine even on the “hottest” days in Canada it is no comparison to the heat in Australia during the summer. It’s kind of like people who grow up in warmer climates can’t handle the cold & snow like those of us who grew up that way. I think our bodies truly adapt to our climates & surroundings. Can’t wait to watch these adventures Greg! Thanks for reminding people about open burning. As a former FF woods/field fire were almost always an “accident” by a person who wasn’t prepared. Being aware of what’s on the ground surrounding your fire, making sure you have a water source to put it out & keeping an eye on it are all very important. You can always dump water around the outside of the fire pit to ensure the fire doesn’t spread or make sure it’s just plain dirt with no debris in it. Dirt/sand does not burn. Rocks are also a good idea to help contain the fire.

Great Video Greg...love the idea of boiling water like you did for the nettles...Awesome knowledge...Thank You💛💛🕊🕊 Back here in US, we get rid of carp...invasive for my territory...not many eat it...we just throw them away...sad, but true...Have a wonderful time with your daughter and family...Much Love and Be Well🕊🕊💛💛

Hey Greg. Awesome to see you in my country. I've been watching you for years now and what a surprise it was when i found out you had family down here. Anyway I've always thought you seemed somewhat australian. you actually remind me of a few people I've worked with on sites. so im glad you could get the opportunity to visit the land. All the best Thanks.
