Wonderful 101 is one of my favorite games ever due to the characters and style alone. The gameplay is a lot of fun but at some points it wasn’t my cup of tea. The final attack against the final boss it’s so “anime” and over the top, I even watch that entire final sequence sometimes on YT because it is so exhilarating

So odd to hear how Know Your Friends was essentially a fully completed game waiting to be released, but Ubisoft just had cold feet and never put it out there. If the game is completed, wouldn't it make sense to just throw it on the eShop anyways to recoup the development costs? Very strange. The game appears to have a very similar style to the Jackbox series, which itself became something of a trend in the 2010's. Ubisoft could have been the one to start the trend instead of Jackbox. It sounds like a huge missed opportunity on their part just because they wanted to have a huge marketing push behind it. Sad to see we'll never to get to play it.

Know Your Friends sounds like an early proto-Jackbox, and those are ridiculously popular. Yes I know that the Jack series predates this by a lot but not in its current form

The Wonderful 101 section starting with the theme song is the one and only correct call. ChipCheezum's LP of that game is part of why I got in to stuff like this, and it's been nice seeing people provide more thorough overviews as part of youtube as a whole. Mario Kart 8 was HUGE for me when it came out. It quickly became my favorite Mario Kart game of all time. I really liked learning about the spinning tops inspiration, in my home country, we have the same game, also known for being and old and extremely popular, we call them "trompos"

Splatoon was my first time playing a shooter, and it really helped me get into the genre. It quickly became my favorite game on the Wii U, to the point I didn't even notice how lackluster 2016 was for the Wii U. I was too busy playing Splatoon during that time :P

Luigi's death stare may not be a hot topic anymore, but it's interesting Nintendo that acknowledged it in a Mario game, with a reference to it in Paper Mario Color Splash. It's even present in the thumbnail for the Wave 6 Booster Course Pass trailer, but who knows if it's intentional or not

I've recently started to turn my wii u into an emulation machine. Its just strong enough to play a lot of retro stuff i’m interested in and has great controller support. If you have your wii u around collecting dust, consider installing some homebrew on it

ZombiU was my first experience with a game where your guys die and stay dead. I finally got the hang of it, playing as a cute blond woman in a gray skirt-suit. Kicking ass with my business lady, when i found my fallen gear next to some fire. I tried ti reach it, iy burned me a little. I took a step back to try again, and all of my health dropped. I was so shocked distraught that my action-business woman died so sadly and stupidly that i never played it again.

I mainly use my Wii U to play Wii games, in particular Wii sports resorte nowadays, but I loved the Wii U in its prime. I never liked how it seemed unnecessarily difficult to replace just the gamepad; after over 10 years my gamepad doesn't last more than 2 minutes before dying and I'm left with only the pro controller if the game allows it

The MK8 underground drilling stuff would be real interesting. Like would it be a power up? Or a part of the actual course design? Perhaps if it was a part of the courses, attempting to drill in certain bits of terrain would be slower than others, or maybe you can crash into ore deposits that act as obstacles which take slightly longer to dig through.

I loved playing Mario Kart 8 on my Wii U! Sad that is seems all the future support for the game is on Switch. The Wii U is interesting especially since it felt like Nintendo was attempting to counter a lot of the issues of the Wii, with a stronger Infrared Sensor bar, built in Wii motion plus with all new Wii controllers, HD Graphics and a stronger software lineup. The issues came with attempting to market the console as a new console rather than a superior Wii as the consumer didn’t see a difference and with the company doubling down on dual screen gaming, leading to difficulties with development and consumer confusion. The console was full of good decisions and bad decisions, which we don’t really see anymore with the next gen systems.
