I know you know you missed Junkerqueen's origin story and animated short, please do watch them, I'd like to see what you think! Also, if you have any interest in playing the game yourself, I do recommend it! It's free to play, so no commitment there. I would LOVE to show you around the game myself, introducing you to the heroes and all the fun things they do, but I also understand that I am a stranger on the internet 😅 If you're looking for more fun characters and animations to watch, I highly recommend the Valorant cinematics. It has a series with (9!) short episodes, and I bet you'd have fun with them!

So, here's the deal with Overwatch 2. It was created with the promise to players to establish a fresh new start (since the game was several years old at that point) and to create a campaign story mode with playable missions, that you can play with your friends. However, after the first few missions, it was decided it was too resource-heavy and expensive to create. Then, they decided to cancel the story mode altogether. The missions were still released, however, after Overwatch 2 was released. But, here's the real kicker: not too long ago (about a few months ago), we learned that they canceled development of new missions VERY early in Overwatch 2's development. By the time the ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO (Zero Hour) was released to ANNOUNCE Overwatch 2, they already decided to cancel story mode altogether.
@DannyvhulstАй бұрын
Yes and the worst part is, we BOUGHT overwatch 1, and could unlock almost everything in the game by playing it (New skins/emotes/voice lines, cosmetic stuff) Then because of overwatch 2 they had to switch engine, because they promised the HUGE PVE mode with hundreds of hours of replayability and leveling and changing your abilities. But by this time Activision already had put corporate managers that knew nothing of the game industry on top of them (They questioned why they still organised Blizzcon, and couldnt understand player investment into a game, like how Solitary Saturn feels after watching the cinematics, they think the game industry is like selling furniture) and the team had been cut already, they had lawsuits going on about harassment in the offices, Jeff Kaplan fought for the gamers, but they wouldn't let him do his thing and over time many great talents (that had been in the company for decades and made the great game IPs). The ONLY reason (except for a slight improvement of graphics) that we needed Overwatch 2 in the first place after waiting for years by now. First the content drought of overwatch 1 which was longer than a year. But with the hope for the amazing Overwatch 2 it almost felt worth it. Then they promised a delay on the PVE content but we could already play overwatch 2 in the meanwhile. At this moment they already FULLY cancelled the PVE but just chose to lie and not tell us to keep players from leaving, this was the point that Jeff Kaplan said his goodbye and quit. Players felt betrayed and did what they could and Overwatch2 (for a while) was the most disliked game on steam. So in the end the only thing that changed was the monetization. Overwatch 2 didnt let you earn the new skins anymore like before. We had no choice but go switch to Overwatch 2 and all we got was cosmetics (that were pretty dope) but that you can only buy with real money... in a game we had already bought. There came a battlepass: More money. They released 'pve missions' which were a 1-time-play (if at all) snoozefest, there is basically custom game modes that people made that are way cooler than this. They locked new heros (in a game where equality in characters is CRUCIAL to make it a skill based game where it's about counterpicking) behind the paid battlepass, so now its also pay-to-win. They basically stopped making new content and go full-in on cosmetics because that brings in money.
@DannyvhulstАй бұрын
Oh and we didn't learn this a few months ago, we learned it after Aaron Keller (game director) said they knew 1.5 years before that they would cancel PVE already so they shifted their resources. We found this out in May 2023, this is a year and 5 months ago already m8 :') I hoped after Microsoft took over it would be better. But so far it's just been a moneygrab skin factory unfortunately.
@breakfaith3031Ай бұрын
@@Dannyvhulstit is worth noting that they no longer lock new heroes behind the battle pass. In fact you get access to them before most of the overwatch 1 heroes because now you get the OW2 heroes as soon as you unlock arcade mode whereas you have to complete 150 matches to unlock all the OW1 heroes, so its not really pay to win anymore.
@DannyvhulstАй бұрын
@@breakfaith3031 Still really weird in a hero countering game where not all heros are evenly balanced to one another that you can't play them all. The weapons the 2 teams can choose to fight eachother should be exactly the same or it becomes unbalanced and unfair. Games like this need this equal playing field or the integrity is gone.
@breakfaith3031Ай бұрын
@@Dannyvhulst expecting all the heroes to be evenly balanced is unrealistic, just look at the sheer size of the roster and remember that Valve struggles to balance a roster of 9 in TF2.

Let me help you out here with some of the questions you had: All characters you’ve seen are playable. None of the characters in the cutscenes were NPC’s, except Mondatta (who you called Halo in the previous video) and Maximillien (the omnic in the black suit from the Storm Rising cinematic). Characters like Roadhog and Junkrat, who you saw in the previous cinematics are also playable, even though they’re not part of Overwatch or Talon. There’s also Symmetra, who doesn’t have any screentime in the cinematics and is a member of Vishkar. There’s Tanks, Damage (DPS), and Supports (Healers). All supports do both damage and heal/provide utility. Some are more focused on healing and less on damage like Lifeweaver or Mercy and some are more damage-focused with "limited" healing, like Illari. As others mentioned, the “pink-haired lady” is Zarya, who you saw at the end of Sombra’s “Infiltration” cinematic. She's a tank and one of the original overwatch characters. You missed Junker Queen’s cinematics. There’s three main factions: Overwatch (the good guys), Talon (the main bad guys), and Null Sector (omnic extremists with Ramattra as their leader). Talon consists of: - Doomfist - Mauga - Sombra (the hacker) - Widowmaker (purple lady) - Reaper (edgy skull mask) - Moira (skinny irish doctor) The invasion cutscenes you watched were part of a PvE pack that Blizzard released. They then subsequently canceled any further PvE content, which is why so many people say the game is dead. Was probably the single most devastating day for most Overwatch players, since Overwatch 2 was sold to the player base as the PvE-focused sequel to the first game.

Haha there's definitely a lot of story-only NPCs in these videos, Brian and Timmy (museum kids), Alejandra girl and all of Los Muertos gang, all of Ecopoint Antarctica team besides Mei, Colonel Balderich and rest of Crusaders, Tremblay and rest of CSIS unit, Mr Yoshida/deaf girl/all of Hashimoto, DaeHyun and rest of MEKA squad, Katya Volskaya, Geiger/Meri/Junker King in wastelander, Efi the creator of Orisa, the policewoman/omnic/girl in Zero Hour, Dr Liao the creator of Echo, all of Deadlock gang besides Ashe, I'm sure I missed more. I'm not trying to be rude, I am just really passionate about the lore! I wrote a wiki that includes literally every single character ever from the franchise, no matter how small, years ago on the forum but I stopped updating it shortly after OW2 came out, but it had gotten to about 230 entries! :D Also Sigma is part of Talon too, his mind isn't fully coherent so they're kind of using him as a tool
@Jakelifts3287Ай бұрын
I guess I wasn’t really thinking about those characters when I was thinking about NPCs, more so characters that look like they might be playable but aren’t-like Maximillian, who people have wanted to be playable. I didn’t take it as rude, I get it. I’ve been a fan of OW lore since 2016 so I understand your passion. I don’t know how I forgot to add Sigma to the list, thanks for mentioning him.

One thing about overwatch lore is that they also made a bunch of comic books/graphic novels that explain some events and characters that you don't get from watching the shorts and cinematics, so if you want to know more it's a good place to look. I LOVE watching people get exposed to this beautiful world. In the actual game, you choose a tank, healer, or damage character (from all factions, good and bad guys) and then its a 5v5 team fight with an objective based on the specific map such as pushing a cart or capturing zones or escorting a robot, that's the basic premise. The game is so fun and polished that since 2016, NO other hero shooter has surpassed it, with Paladins being the only close one which hasn't been shut down (many other hero shooters have shut down over the years such as Lawbreakers, Battleborn, Crucible, Concord)

If you do ever consider playing the game, I think that trying out the characters in the game's training range and seeing what they do would be really entertaining. Sometimes people make videos where they just hop into the game and verse other players but it can be very overwhelming and confusing for them, and not always the best content (for my enjoyment anyway). Being able to get familiar with the characters at your own pace would be fun to watch especially since you've got an interest in the characters from all these shorts. This way you'll also be able to pick up on the characterisation of each hero in the game, since this is often overlooked when actually playing a match.

it was so amazing to watch these shorts again Thanks for this awesome video. (This may be a long comment with heaps of info if you're interrested lol!) Ifyou want to see more about quite a few of the heroes, it might pay to search for the hero name with "gameplay trailer" after to get an idea of their abilities etc. For example, the Juno gameplay trailer has what actually happened after Juno reached earth, the Anna gameplay trailer shows her abilities and how she works with the teams etc. the "pink hair" character is Zarya and she was very briefly in the Sombra animated short after the Overwatch logo. Mei does use ice as her weapon as the short "rise and shine" showed how this came about (making ice wall, ice crystals etc). Yes, in the Kiriko animated short, she did heal him with a couple of her actual in game abilities. the robot Mondata who was shot was killed by Widdowmaker in the short "alive". Sadly, the story aspect of overwatch 2 did not go well and those cutscenes were from the only missions of the game that were actually PVE but that has now fallen through. :( The game is now primarily a 5v5 team shooter and hopefully, they will eventually reveal the rest of the story in animated shorts or other means. I hope this helps, sorry it was a very long comment lol!

Whoever said tank is the hardest.. they're not necessarily wrong. It's just that tank has the most "responsibility". There's a lot of pressure as a tank player, basically. Everyone in the team has to rely on them to "tank" the damage and defend them. Meanwhile, DPS (Damage Dealers) need to kill/pick off enemy DPS and Supports. And Supports are there to basically keep the team alive or use their utility-type abilities to "support" allies. With that said.. Tank heroes are not difficult to play, if anything.. they're the easiest with the most simple abilities and mechanics.

They gave up on the "campaign" feature. Also, every character you see in the shorts and origins are the playable characters. Character dynamic: There are tanks which are the visibly larger of the characters. They have more health and pretty good damage. DPS which are the medium to smaller characters. They have less health than tanks and are specialized to do damage. Supports (or healers depending on who you ask) have similar size and health to DPS, but they are capable of healing their teammates. They can also do damage but not to a DPS or Tank's ability.

Unfortunately, as we learnt a few days ago, there were plans for Overwatch to be made into a Netflix, not unlike shows like Arcane; it was, unfortunately, discarded because of Blizzard suing Netflix in 2020 for illegally attaining the then-CFO of Blizzard to work for Netflix.

I noticed you often thought you had missed some of the character cinematics or story elements. (Like how you didn’t know much about Lucio despite him being one of the first overwatch characters haha) I wanted to let you know that not all the characters were given cinematic trailers and a lot of the story is told through the game, comics or other media, so going by just these cinematics will be a bit confusing! Unfortunately it seems the game won’t be as story focused either, hence why there are less fully animated cinematics for their newer characters, but it was still exciting to see your reactions and I hope maybe one day you can watch a fan made video that summarizes it all or maybe explore the games and other media a little, thank you for sharing your first experience!

Every time I see Genji running in the ceiling and deflecting I just get goosebumps, and I saw that video tens of times .... is so sad what the greed of the gaming industry did to this game 😢

Ah, Kiriko. She's definitely one of the more controversial characters in all of Overwatch 2. She's basically usurped Tracer's role as 'mascot' for the games. Some common complaints about her include: * Her background. She is another Japanese character whose specialty involves mystical creatures. While the argument can also be made for the other 2 Japanese characters we already have (Genji and Hanzo), you can also argue that because they were both originally the same character in development, the aspect of mystical creatures was too intertwined with their character concepts to be divorced. * Her characterization in her short (caring, dedicated, protective) is distinctly absent in her in-game interactions (sarcastic, snappy). * Her age: Kiriko is described to have trained at ayoung age with both Genji and Hanzo (who are in their late 30s) despite being only 21. When Hanzo and Genji split, they were both young adults, which contradicts the illustrations in her Origins short. * Cosmetics favoritism: Kiriko has received the most in-game skins after being released, comparatively to characters introduced before and after her. Because of Overwatch 2's model of being micro-transaction-happy, she is in many purachasable packs. All of this is to say, I want to like Kiriko, but there's just so many obstacles that it's hard to fight against. She has an AMAZING cinematic!

The only one your missing is Junker Queens origin story and animated short

The story to Overwatch has a similar plot to the movie 9

In overwatch 2 they remodeled all the heroes and the new cinematics use the remodels

These videos would mean much more to you if you understood the abilities of each player. For example the video for Overwatch 2 - You see Genjo come in, people who play it knew straight away he would use his reflex ability to save the monkey :)

There's a great callback line in "Zero Hour". At 7:25 - Tracer says, "we'll be right behind you" and Winston says, "you'd better be". Then at 9:55 - Winston says, "I'll be right behind you" and Tracer responds in kind with, "you'd better be".

@@SolitarySaturnalso I don’t know if anyone mentioned all the characters in these shorts are playable, if you do play you’ll have only a limited amount of people to play but you can unlock all of them it won’t take long, the Overwatch website also has comics and novels that add on to the lore

Seeing someone who doesnt know anything about overwatch compliment the story and animation just proves that overwatch could have an amazing tv show. Unfortunately the chances of this got ruined for many reasons.
