At least 15 police officers and several civilians were killed and many injured in coordinated attacks in Dagestan, Russia’s southernmost province on the Orthodox festival of Pentecost. The simultaneous attacks occurred in Dagestan's largest city of Makhachkala and in the coastal city of Derbent with Governor Sergei Melikov calling it a "terrorist attack".
