Another tip for you…use a tracing wheel on the paper lines before you start piecing. Paper tears away so much more easily. Love your videos and your enthusiasm!!!!

That is beautiful Kris. I loved all your tips. I have done some foundation paper piecing in the past and immediately went to check my ruler, no thin part on mine either. Oh well, it's back to the birthday card. It's an adventurous pattern but the end results are worth it. Loved this video.

I've done a couple of paper pieced blocks and really enjoyed the process. Your table runner is gorgeous!! I really liked the tray tip and I realized I had a whole stack of plastic oversized picnic plates from when years ago just sitting in a cabinet in my utility room. I'm going to give them a try!! Thanks for sharing.

Tip - use paper friendly scissors for pre-trimming the paper pieces. And tape just incase there is an accident and the paper starts to fall apart. A nice looking pattern.

Nice video and cute project. I haven’t seen your blog, so I don’t know if you mentioned these things there. I always sew well past the intersections to try to prevent seams coming open. I also heard a suggestion a long time ago to tear paper from the middle out toward the corners to prevent stitches from coming loose. You just work a little on one side loose and then tear the paper down the center so that you can pull toward each corner. Here’s something I learned the hard way - if you are making copies of FPP patterns on a printer, use an inkjet printer. If you use a laser printer, when you press your pieces the toner can transfer to your iron and then to other pieces you are pressing. Once that toner gets set by heat, it’s on your fabric forever. I always use a pencil to trace the pattern onto the side of the paper where I’ll be placing my fabric. I write the piece number and sometimes the fabric name or color. I don’t have a light box, so I place a flashlight under an upside-down rectangular glass baking dish.

Love love love Sheri's patterns! Doing her Greenhouse Garden now and just love it. The other thing I find works really well in fpp is a water pen. Love my add-a-quarter (and eighth) but would love to find a plus one day. Great tips & reuse of the prairie points tool.

Enjoyed the video and all the tips. I love paper piecing and sometimes do it just for fun. I have a few blocks that I just wanted to try (no purpose in mind for them) that I might put together as a sampler quilt. I usually just use regular copy paper because that’s what I have on hand, but will have to get to a store and pick up a pack of newsprint.
@SewtheDistance

Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed this! 🥰 I made the sample with regular copy paper. It certainly can be done with great results. I do like the newsprint better, but copy paper does work fine.

That is so pretty! I'm not a big paper piecing person. I did make a turtle quilt one time. It's very pretty, but not sure if I would do again, I don't know, love the fabric though.

Very lovely. I like paper piecing. But I was wondering if this would work as an applique instead of messing with all those pieces. Nice to see you Kris! Take care. Marion in Oregon.
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance 6 ай бұрын
I completely agree! Funny story--I thought it was appliqué when I ordered the kit, and apparently MSQC thought that, too, because there was a mistake in the description. Being true to who they are with the great customer service, they offered to exchange it but I opted to keep it and make it. They have fixed the description.

Beautiful table runner Kris; I love that fabric and your tips are great! I really like paper piecing and I love the results, but I haven't done a lot of it. The trick for me is getting into some kind of "flow", and that's what I struggle with - sometimes it sort of hurts my brain. My dream is someday to make a "New York Beauty" but I feel right now it's more than I want to take on - I need to hone my skills a bit more.
@SewtheDistance
