Perhaps no video on this channel has generated as much controversy as this one. Here are some FACTS: NO it is not mine. Not a single coin in it is mine. The owner is in fact a friend. He is older than I and worked for many years to gain what you see. NO he did not purchase all of it that year. This is YEARS OF LABOR AND WORK stored in metal form. He has since moved some into LAND and areas similar. He is still a heavy stacker. He is surely the largest stacker I ever met. The funniest part of the comments this video receives is the vitriolic hate from gold bears and gold haters. Comments that mathematically explain his losses because he owns metal, when in fact they know nothing of his timing, buy dates, sell dates, price over spot, etc. One question that has always baffled me, as I sit here with a beer, is, "For people who hate gold, you sure do watch a lot of videos on it". I never look up or watch videos on hoards of cash or bonds or look up videos on things I truly despise. Funny how Keynesian gold haters, have little more to do than sit around and troll gold videos. Thank you for your time.

retrotelevision1 He talks about the dates and shows them in the video. The monster box of silver is from 2010. The NGC gold eagles are also 2010. It looks like the guy was buying toward the top, and he's at best broken even (assuming he didn't buy anything afterwards. I'd consider it a loss due to the opportunity costs. He would have made a LOT more money by putting the money into an S&P index ETF like SPY or VOO.
@2011blueman8 жыл бұрын
***** Again, not likely. I doubt he was buying much before 2008, and again it would still be a poor allocation of capital compared to stocks. Gold has no earnings potential associated with it. If you had reinvested the dividends (which you can't do with gold), the return would have been 1362699.320%. dqydj.com/sp-500-return-calculator/

@Bartleby18927 жыл бұрын
A stack of silver worth over 200,000 $ wouldn't fit in a shoebox though. And where is the huge potential? 60-70$ per ounce or maybe a bit more? What event would cause a massively increased silver price but also wouldn't cause a massively increased gold/plat price? Some big new economical branch/technology needing silver, that's about it. If you think about some kind of private trade during an apocalyptical crisis your silver coins will be pretty useless anyway as people tend to prioritize food and warmth in such times so you should've stacked that instead. I know the ratio, and if it goes back to 30 again I'll take it, but the best thing to do is mixing it up anyway. Focus on silver only if you have no choice or no patience.

Hope he has a gun for that day! But in all seriousness, when the Iraqi dollar failed, it was replaced with different paper currency. What makes you think we won't replace the dollar with a more stable paper currency instead?
@modestcody1237 жыл бұрын
Gun point, true. Paper currency point is a little off, though. Yes, that will most likely be what happens here as well; however, since so much of the world economy revolves around the US dollar, we will most like see a major drop in the value of that new paper/fiat dollar. With that being said, silver/gold will be able to store that wealth at a solid value, vs. having your fiat currency "wealth" cut in half (or worse). If the dollar failed and a new "more stable" paper currency was put into use, it would have to be valued higher to be more stable than the previous currency, right? For example, $500 = 100 of the new currency. Your buying power would be diminished. With previous metals, the idea is that the value is the same all the time. It's the currency that fluctuates around it; thus, storing your wealth. That's the idea, at least.
@bigidiot1235 жыл бұрын
+ryan "when the Iraqi dollar failed, it was replaced with different paper currency" And the old Iraqi dollar became worth less than the paper it was printed on. When the US dollar collapses I don't want to be holding US dollars. If the economy recovers with the "New US Dollar" and everything seemed stable I would gladly trade some of my money for that new US dollar. Ergo I preserved my wealth. Anyone with their entire net worth in US dollars would not have preserved their wealth at all, it would be worth precisely 0. Of course, gold isn't the only non-US dollar investment. Real estate is also a good place to keep your money. Anything in limited supply will *always* have value. US money is backed by nothing, they can print as much they want. No value.
@BananaMana695 жыл бұрын

Is it cool to have 300k worth of precious metals. Hell yes. But it's not cool to put yourself in a gilded cage to appear like you have freedom. Real freedom is having 1 million in precious metals in a secure vault and the freedom to travel, make other investments, drive what you want, live where you want and share your wealth with your inner circle while your money replenishes itself on it's on, in ways you can control. The message here is work hard, deny yourself long enough, save as much as you can and put your money in a shoebox and by the time you reach 60 you can live like this too. No thank you. @kev3d9 жыл бұрын
Actually, he is sharing his friend's stack, and in the description he writes "Keep stacking friends!", which sounds an awful lot like advocacy to me. And I am not arguing that the "rest of the world" is wrong, I am pointing out the mathematically established fact that Gold and Silver have performed horribly over the last 2 years. There were a few 2 years of rapid growth in value before that, since precious metals tend to be a panic-buy an the recession was fresh, and the value was very flat for several years before that. "Stacking" for the sake of storing value is unwise with such an unstable asset. Small percentages bought and sold as "ballast" to a balanced portfolio protects against major losses, but that ballast should be dynamic; buying in when the price is low, selling out when the price is high, rather than simply stacking at all times, because as we have seen, the bottom can fall out and savings destroyed in just a few months.
@paparoti119 жыл бұрын
kev3d I understand where you are coming from, though . Noted from his stacks from 2008 Buffalos to 2010American Gold Eagles, those can be bought at that time around $800 to US$ 1000 an oz , so this stack may not have lost as much values as you had calculated . But of course this is not the point that you are trying to convey. :)

well done i hope my future generations will learn to save as i dedicated my life to get my wife and kids out of a 3rd world country. i devoted all the pain and suffering and didnt finish school but upon my death i think i will have saved this much money we will not own a house. i invest 45% of my income a year and started when i was 45 years old. i will teach my kids to invest 25% of there lifes savngs to save for the next generations and so in. Its not to be greedy as my hooe is to get to a point to live off dividends and invest on dividends that buy gold and silver and precious metals. I am at a point phsically i cant do what i used to. i am disabled. however i want to someday have a generation that lives on 5% of there wealth. invests 10% and gives away 20% and after taxes has 20% to grow and help there next generatiins until Jesus returns.

BILL GOAT Depending on what he paid for it in the first place, no one but himself can tell if his stack in its current condition is worth more or less then what he initially bought it for. Yes, it contains 2010 bullion. But are YOU sure they were the inital buy ? People change the content of their stack from time to time when good deals show up. What difference does it make if he payed a high spot for those bullion, if he got high spot for the ones he sold to get the newer minted ones =) ?

The description reads " That is the key to wealth. DO NOT PAY INTEREST." And yet, we are told this guy has a 15 year old car, no smart phone and now he's unemployed and "older". So what exactly is "wealth" if you have a shit car and no job? From the time that this video was posted to the time of this comment, Silver has dropped about -42%, Gold has lost -22%. Pretty terrible performance in less than 2 years. It may go back up, but if Russia continues to feel the sting of low oil prices, it may start selling its gold reserves, which could depress the price further. The point is, it isn't a particularly good investment when the commodity is so volatile. "If you want to have this much gold, you need to want other things LESS." You can't eat gold, you can't watch TV on it, it doesn't keep you warm on cold days or get you where you need to go, it doesn't fix leaks or help with the housework. Even as currency, it's pretty impractical because it has to be converted into common currency. What in the hell is the point of having gold or silver for the sake of having it? It's shiny?
@JuniusMaltby9 жыл бұрын
The individual who owns this gold moves his assets and does not STAY in gold 100% of the time. He has real estate, purchased a brand new 2015 Subaru with cash this year, is unemployed because he no longer HAS TO WORK. He is relaxed, at peace, enjoys life, and has a pretty good thing going on. You have merely seen less than 1% and extrapulated quite the comment out of it. Owning gold and silver has been preserving wealth for 65 centuries. After the great wars, people in Europe saw their entire life savings eradicated if held in cash and bonds. Those who converted their wealth into gold were able to move their wealth into the post war period. If gold were as worthless as you state, I must ask, why do the central banks and elite hoard and covet 80% of the known physical gold?
@kev3d9 жыл бұрын
Well guess what, had he put his money is real estate in the first place, in all likelihood he would not have lost any value. Gold and Silver, like many commodities, may never go to zero, but that does not mean they preserve wealth, especially when they are hoarded, instead, smart investors and banks use them as ballast; sell when high or in debt, buy when low. For example, Ukraine has been selling its Gold lately, and if the cheap oil prices persist, Russia may follow to make up for lost revenue. Thus gold is not "hoarded", if it was, the U.S. Mint, The Perth Mint etc. would not sell Gold and Silver coins. In other words, precious metals are part of a fluid exchange of commodities and not something to "stack" because it looks good on a table. No one stacks banana futures for example, even though like gold, the value never goes to zero and can be quite volatile. People have literally lost huge portions of their life savings because the Gold and Silver bugs were pushing buy, buy, buy when the price was abnormally high, ignoring all signs of a bubble about to pop, which it did. And it didn't take a huge war to do it, either, just ordinary market fluctuations and yet it could take years before the price to recover. Over the long haul, gold, but silver as well, have not had a very good rate of return. The S&P 500 Index has far outperformed gold returns over the past several decades. From the start of 1980 through the end of 2013, $100,000 invested in gold grew to $269,000, for an annualized return of 3.0% (less than the rate of inflation). In comparison, the same amount invested in the S&P 500 Index grew with reinvested dividends to $4.2 million over this same time period, for an annualized return of 11.6% seekingalpha.com/article/2717275-gold-is-way-overrated How can it be said that something "preserves wealth" when it loses a full third (gold) to sixty percent (silver)of value in less than 3 years? In fact, any Silver purchased between today and approximately March of 2009 and held, not adjusting for inflation, has been a loss, with the price either soaring too high, or declining since. Not a big deal if only a small percentage of the portfolio, the investor is young or was smart enough to sell when the price was still high. But for hoarders and retirees especially, the news has been really bad. Similar for Gold. quotes.post1.org/historical-silver-price-chart/ If someone was clever enough to have bought in the 90's to around 2001 and sold between 2006 and today, they would have done pretty well, but this is the exact opposite strategy that has been promoted by the gold and silver bugs which has been buy as much as you can, as often as you can and when the price is spiking, keep buying. More often than not, they push the economic collapse story when there is A. no merit to it, and B. ignore that in the case of economic collapse, people trade in alternative currencies or useful consumables and not precious metals which serve very little utility in a collapsed market. In short, Gold and Silver require a functioning system of banks to work as a medium of exchange. Say you have a 1oz gold eagle and you want to buy oranges...what are you going to do? Buy 5000 oranges at once, or get out a jewelry saw and scales to cut off one bag's worth of oranges from the coin? Someone is going to have to convert that gold into functional cash. Otherwise, the orange grower would much rather have something he can use or eat himself.
@JuniusMaltby9 жыл бұрын
"In short, Gold and Silver require a functioning system of banks to work as a medium of exchange." So in 2000 B.C. gold and silver required a functioning system of banks to work as a medium of exchange. The two have been functioning as units of exchange since the dawn of man. Yes, they are not the best when it comes to gambling your wealth and reaping a huge rate of return. However, neither has ever been worthless, which is a lot more than paper assets can claim. Oranges don't keep or store, and are difficult to transport. Read even the words of Alan Greenspan or watch the video I made of Greenspan on Gold. Gold is a great vehicle for wealth and has been forever and will always continue to be.

Junius Maltby " So in 2000 B.C. gold and silver required a functioning system of banks to work as a medium of exchange." When it was used, yes, although a lot of labor was paid for in grain or exchange of labor. But when gold was used, it had to be measured carefully as standard coins were not invented until 700 BC. But even with the invention of coins it was difficult to access purity or accurate weight, hence the need for money changers, who inevitably charge for their service. In the pre-industrial world this was the best anyone could manage, apart from a handful of credit systems that sprung up from time to time. But in the context of today, this is extremely inefficient. When news traveled no faster than a horse, once cannot expect price large fluctuations changing daily, but today prices can swing many percentage points almost hourly. It is true that paper currency can inflate or deflate, but most of the time, those fluctuations are relatively predictable. It shouldn't have to be pointed out that the Great depression and every panic prior occurred under the Gold standard, so Gold offered no particular protection to woes and can always be debased at any time. And once again, in 40 years, Gold performed a little *worse* than the rate of inflation. How can something "store" value, when value is A. Subjective and B. The market price changes wildly? "However, neither has ever been worthless, which is a lot more than paper assets can claim." Untrue, During the Wiemar republic with hyperinflation, people took to barter and stocks, rather than gold because they are just that much more flexible. Even in Zimbabwe today, the alternative is other currencies, not Gold. Some societies on Earth don't value Gold at all, favoring things like cattle. But as far as "worthlessness" in a mainstream context, again, Gold has no practical use outside industry (which requires a functioning society; water, power, rule of law etc.) you can't eat it, grow it, it's hard to divide, it's hard to test without equipment and chemicals, it generates no power, it purifies no water, it hunts no game, it doesn't heat anything up or cool anything down. At that level, its a hunk of pretty looking, soft metal. It's easy to steal, expensive to transport and can be counterfeit. Under the doomsday scenario, bullets, water, seeds, cattle, containers, oil, fabric, almost anything else has much greater utility and value. "Oranges don't keep or store..." But you can eat them, and in all but the most exotic circumstances, they can be purchased with easily divisible currency, rather than having to shave off grains of Gold onto the Orange grower's scales.
