While we depend on those work programs, it is time for us to invite factories and assembly plants to operate in Jamaica.....we need them.

The days are long gone when you can invite factory and assembly plants to come and set up operations in jamaica as jamaica is no longer a low cost operation as Mexico, China and other Asian countries have much lower cost base to set up operation. The only competitive advantage jamaica currently has is its close proximity to the major US market. No longer business is going to come to jamaica given that we have a strong union base culture and factory and assembly plants business tend to stay away from that environment. America business goes to countries where there are no unions that will impact cost to do business. The only option is to create free zone where it's tax free and union free then factory and assembly plants will come to jamaica asbthe operation costnwillnbe attractive and competitive
