The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Monday expressed resentment after RTI findings mentioned that 148 of the 342 families residing at the Harijan Colony in Them Iew Mawlong are not employed by the government of Meghalaya.
Speaking to the media HYC President Roykupar Synten objected to any land or dwelling places given to them as part of the relocation programme.
The RTI reply received from the office of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) prompted HYC to seek the intervention of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong demanding the eviction of the 148 settlers from Them Iew Mawlong.
Synrem also added that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was also shocked to learn the details and will be calling a meeting shortly to seek clarification from the SMB on whether the 342 families filed in the affidavit by them is correct or the numbers they provided to the HYC sought through the RTI.

When you visit Meghalaya, you expect to see the original settlers of Meghalaya the Khasis and the Garos. However the first person you see when you enter Meghalaya is not the people of Meghalaya but foreigners of the land who are from mainland India. Well you'll mostly see foreigners all the time when you visit places like Shillong. Foreigners are running almost every shop in Shillong. So it doesn't look like a place of the Khasis or Garos. It's more like the land of non-tribals. What will happen to Meghalaya and its people in another 10 years? Will there be no pure blood Khasis or Garos left? Meghalaya will lose its authenticity. Meghalaya is becoming the land of the MARWARI, BENGALI, PUNJABI. Other NE state should not lose their identity, their authenticity to these non-tribals.

This is insecurity from you! These days non-tribe is almost living Meghalaya only business person and gov employees are left just wait merely 10years you won't see any non-tribe in Meghalaya special East khasi hills. We have no future here we understand this we also knew that tribal don't want us to live here in their state, since statehood we had been facing atrocities, here we have to pay taxes to state, central and NGOs. But forgetting the contribution made by non-tribal towards the welfare of the state is an insane' Tomorrow even you tribal for better education, job or future you have to travel to mainland(non-tribal) but these people won't see you as their enemy they will you equal opportunity as them 🙏🏿

Let's be real that's not even happening you can see with your own eyes the numbers keep multiplying year by year the land is getting flooded with non tribal. I/we are never against those couples of non tribals who were here since the olden days but we are against the new non tribal that's keeps on flooding in your land. Sometimes see it from our end the hardships we face.

What you fail to realize is that the percentage population of non-tribal in Meghalaya is actually on a downward trend, as per the last census, maybe even further back than just the last. Unless what you are trying to say is that you want to eradicate them.

If you travel to any other part of country no one is asking you about your identity perhaps you can do anything thing you want but here the scenarios are completely vice-versa

Problem with NE tribals is that we're too friendly amd hospitable. We should be more racist and hostile towards them just like they're towards us. How many NE people have migrated to other Indian states in huge numbers and live there? Recently in Karbi Anglong, Bihari migrants deleted a Karbi youth and a huge situation arose.
