Meghalaya police recovered a large cache of ammunition in the wee hours of April 25 from the jungles near Chibokgre Village in the South Garo Hills district.
The recovery was made after the police, acting on a tipoff, indicating that suspected militants had concealed ammunition boxes in the jungle near the village. A team led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Chokpot, along with the Chief Inspector (C.I) from Sadar, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chokpot, one representative from the 13th Battalion of the Indian Reserve Battalion (13DDS), and three police personnel, was dispatched to verify the information at approximately 1:15 am. Following a search that continued for hours, the police team successfully located and unearthed the concealed items at around 3:27 am.
The recovered items, consisting of 340 live anti-aircraft ammunition and four ammunition boxes, were seized by the OC Chokpot.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
