I totally agree. I still have a career in/through the pandemic and though it’s not perfect I’ve never been so grateful to have an income along with some bonus $ coming in, so I’ve been making a conscientious effort to pay off as much of the principal on my auto loan until my credit score goes up a bit more and then I’m going to refinance it.

Retail jobs have no loyalty to their employees. None. I used to work in retail & the store manager fired a cashier who'd worked there for 10 years, knew all her customers, and literally was so positive everyday. All because a customer who had about $2 left on his store credit gift card gave it to her to keep & she purchased a drink with it. Fired her on the spot with no warning.

Thankfully I had some money saved which helped me keep current on my loan payments and survive barely, thankfully I found job in few months and now fast forward totally debt free and have 50k saved in bank account and hopefully buy a house when I have enough saved to put as a down payment. Stay strong brother, don’t lose hope. I am sure you will get out of this mess.

I’ve suffered from depression my entire life as far back as I can remember at 9yrs old. I’ve had multiple traumas that have happened and I never sought the counseling that I need. Until I started listening to Dave and John. I realized that why yes I have this illness and the cause was out of my control, how I handled it and if I sought counseling or not was up to me. Once I realized that it’s my responsibility to take care of it myself is when my world changed. I got out of the victim mentality and got into survivor mentality. Now I feel better than I ever have and I don’t feel overwhelmed taking on my debt and other life issues.

I use to go through what he went through as far as depression. My best advice is to give your depression to God. It was the best decision I ever made. Also, you got to stop beating yourself up about your situation. Dave Ramsey and other success stories are physical proof that you can get rid of debt. Get out of that negative mindset because it's holding you captive. You have to fight for your happiness and your life.

For all of you experts that feel "You're Exempt" from setbacks, hitting rock bottom, or having "Murphy" to visit your doorstep, keep living. Wake-up call.......YOU'RE NOT EXEMPT!!! Stop being judgemental and harsh in your opinion on what you feel this person coulda, shoulda, and woulda done. Even Dave says it himself that there's usually serious life changing events that take place in our lives every 10 years or so. Job loss, death of loved one's, accidents, medical issues, downsizing, etc... happens to us all or those we know. Depression is very serious and has literally taken lives and caused irrational behaviors and decisions. Most of us who are not depressed have made irrational decisions and will continue making them. I pray nothing but the best begins to happen for this man and thank Dave for his service. Believe it or not, You negative people will probably remember this caller once you're placed into a position to either humble yourself or be humbled. THINK ON THAT!!! *Love and blessings to you all*

Very good discussion. Depression and discouragement are topics that are terribly over looked in the money game. This is a really bad problem for people who lose their jobs or for students who graduate into a recession. You get to the point where you just give up on the job search. The Great Recession is a classic example. Truth be told many many students students still haven't recovered from the horrible effects of the Great Recession cause they couldn't get work experience in their major after they graduated into that recession. As a result it still hurts their job search today for lack of experience. This has been a horrible problem for me as a grad of the Great Recession even to this day. To be honest I gave up. I am employed but the job has nothing to do with my degree. I just couldn't do it any more so I gave up the job search in my major. I thought accounting would open doors to an awesome career path. Boy was I wrong. Sadly my education did nothing for me. Oh well life goes on.
