In this video I'm almost done with the upholstery in the 67 Chevelle wagon I make up the patterns cut the leather to recover the front bucket seats and start to make the back bench look like the buckets.

Quality craftsmanship is disappearing. So it's especially gratifying to see someone with the skills and care like you. Love the attention to every detail. You're an artist, my friend.

Wow im amazed with the expertise and craftsmanship involved in making a set of seat covers. Ive paid for about 5 or 6 cars to be redone over the last 30 years. I had no idea. Those included vinyl tops headliners and carpets. I have a new found respect. Thanks for making these videos . Awesome!

Using a big stitch length makes joining the leather to the foam backing alot quicker as you are only needing to tack the two together after glueing. & If you trim the seam back at all the cross joins you will find the machine won't go sideways whilst doing your french seam at the thick pieces.

You need a stitch in the ditchfoot that has the spring piece that keeps you in the ditch and you get perfect stitching . Available in different widths and such , they help immensely . Thus is one of the times you want a sewing machine that has needle possitioner installed so hou can set it when you stop the need is in down or up position but when doing you'd definitely want to have it stop with foot down . Very impressive work it looks great well done fella

Trying my first job like your work but would really like to know how you made your patterns out of paper if you could make a short video about them it would really help me out.

I'm about 2 - 3 weeks away from starting to do upholstery, And I'm usually running about 1-2 weeks behind on editing videos so about a month + before it'll be posted up, I have a quite a few requests for that so I'll do a more detailed pattern video.

Been thinking about doing a custom reshape and trim job on the project's factory seats. Think I'll just grab some off-the-shelf bucket seats instead and save the custom trim thing for easier panels like dashboard and centre console...
@overthefendergarage7 ай бұрын
Yea they can be pretty intimating to do the first couple of times.

When you make patterns, do you use clear plastic or tracing paper to make initial pattern from the seat and then later convert it over to paper? Also is there a reason why most upholstery places use half inch and thinner foam? I know that a lot of people like firmer seats but I want to make my seats extra soft and squishy so I was thinking a full inch thick foam or even thicker.

Curious why you create separate panels for seat back/bottom inserts rather than making one large panel and using pleats? Total legit question. I am by no means challenging you. I'm genuinely curious. I'm trying to get into doing my own seat covers as soon as I find a machine, so learning what I can from videos like this. Great job with your Chevelle, btw. Outstanding. We need to start getting you more views ;) Very underrated channel but I know it's rather new. If you haven't thought about using a mic yet, I would highly consider it. It will definitely improve the quality of your videos. Speaking from a seasoned YT viewer ;)

Because individual panels don't have thread showing, a cleaner, more luxurious looking seat

Thanks! I am looking into mic's I've been waiting to see how this YT thing goes, Doing these channels get's expensive pretty quick..... It really comes down to looks if you just did a top stich it looks like vinal or you took the cheap way out, Doing each piece hides all the stitching except what you want to be exposed plus its a challenge, If you have the means I suggest buying a new machine if you plan on doing more then one its the one tool in your arsenal that will never loose valve if taken care of. I did 2 side jobs to pay for it. Rich.

When doing inserts and I do not want the stitches to show I stitch the front and fold over and stitch through back.
