Revisiting this scene as an adult makes me appreciate how the tie-in game for the movie actually gave Vincent a happy ending. He joins RJ and the other animals and even helps defend their home during one of the levels. I think the devs also realized Vincent wasn’t really a villain.

Even as a kid, it aggravated me that RJ didn't just simply ask Vincent for a little food. He seemed pretty chill at first before he realized RJ was robbing him and he even knew his name. Like they're well acquainted seems like. Here's how the situation should've gone. RJ slowly wakes up Vincent. Vincent: "RJ?" RJ: "Yeah." Vincent: "The moon is not full yet. You woke me up a week early." RJ: "Yeah, yeah. I know. I know. I'm sorry. I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't an emergency." Vincent: (sighs mildly annoyed) "Alright, RJ. What's the emergency?" RJ: "Ok. So, the snack machine down the hill has only one bag of chips in it and it's stuck. I can't reach it and have been trying for several minutes. Could you maybe shake the machine so it'll loosen the bag for me. Please? Buddy? Friend?" Vincent: (still a little annoyed. Rolls eyes) "Fine RJ." Vincent shakes the machine and RJ gets his bag of chips. RJ: "Thanks Vincent." Vincent: "Don't worry about it." RJ: "Well, i guess i better head off." Vincent: "Tell you what RJ. Why don't you just crash here tonight. Or at least til my hibernation is over. You can keep watch in case any pesky humans come snooping around. Think of it as a little payback for waking me up a whole week early, pal." RJ: "sure thing, buddy." The End

Not sure if this was intentional, but the ending of this movie, where Vincent gets hauled off to the Rockies is actually a clever bit of poetic karma when you think about it. This movie takes place within the Eastern U.S (apparently in Illinois or Indiana), where black bears are the only large predator, and Vincent is shown as a gluttonous bully who likes to throw his weight around, but in the Rockies, he’ll have to deal with cougars, packs of wolves and worst of all, grizzly bears, who are well known for bullying and outright killing their smaller cousins, often with little provocation. Meaning Vincent will have to deal with his own Vincent.

I agree Vincent isn't really evil. Now people would say that he was proud of RJ to abandon his friends to give him his food, and saying you're dead RJ with his friends being next making him truly evil, but it all comes down to his nature as a bear not really needing to care about the smaller forest critters because actually in real life bears don't care for the smaller animals that they eat. Also RJ did start the whole entire plot of the movie trying to rob Vincent stealing all of his food, and didn't even think to get food out of the garbage near the snack machine instead like real raccoons do. In my eyes he seems more human than any of the other animals having qualities that makes him selfish like some human beings. Vincent is really my third favorite character from the movie Over The Hedge under Stella, and Hammy being misunderstood as a character.

And even when he had it all, he decided it was a good idea to even take the canister from Vincent’s paws and even open it in front of him. I watched this movie quite a lot as a kid and I never realized until literally just now that this movie has a very similar plot to A Bug's Life. I love how when Vincent gets his food stolen, he's poised to kill RJ as retaliation, but RJ says he'll get it all back, which he does, only for Vincent to lose it again. And then, he not only targets RJ, but also all his friends. In A Bug's Life, Hopper isn't aware that Flick caused all the food to be lost until near the end of the movie, and prior to that, he pins that loss on all the other ants. Looking back on this and realizing it now, this is almost like an alternative of A Bug's Life, as RJ promises Vincent a second try in this movie, while Hopper gives the ants a second chance to get him and the grasshoppers their food, not knowing Flick caused the problem in A Bug's Life.

This movie Over The Hedge is a great film to watch about forest animals trying to survive by foraging for their own food. I know Vincent is hated by people thinking he's a truly evil bear, but he's misunderstood as a character in my opinion. RJ was the one who started the whole entire conflict of the movie by trying to steal all of Vincent's food, and I know he was starving, though he's a raccoon, and raccoons usually eat out of garbage cans. So maybe he should've found something to eat out of the garbage, instead of being stupid, and trying to steal all of Vincent's food that he worked to get. Also he did seem proud of RJ to backstab the other forest critters, and got really angry when he decided to go back to them destroying Vincent's food again. Still I look at it from the bear's perspective too. He may seem like an angry homicidal bear to RJ, and the other forest animals, yet he's just going by his nature as a bear to survive, which they normally eat smaller forest critters anyways. Everybody is allowed to think Vincent is evil. It's just my personal theory on the film, and I think he's a great character.

great show i liked the character development throughout the long journey of moral development and i think the use of maslows hierarchy of needs really is represented well in this film for example rj would never take that food if he didnt feel his safety and shelter was a priority above food and water. throughout the movie you can see as he is given these necessities to living he then realizes love and belonging is just as important for a small critter like him. i really can appreciate a good piece of art when i see it and man did this movie move me. trult will make a man a man

To be fair, Vincent the Bear had a good reason to be mad at RJ. Even though Vincent’s food is human food, he probably worked hard to get it all, granted, his red wagon and cooler was something he probably stole, but still, RJ should have just taken a little, not a lot. Despite being antagonistic to RJ, he has a reason to be mad at him. The true villain was Gladys Sharp.

When Vincent said that he would hunt RJ down and kill him if he ran away I believe him, not only because that is how he is but he is also a bear, an animal that has a much greater sense of smell than a dog. So I fully believe that Vincent can, indeed, find and kill RJ if he ran away. And i think RJ knew that since since he didn't run away (other than the general fear of the bear).
