Adventure Island's Ghost Train originally opened in 1999 as "Beelzee Bob's Trail" and was built in-house by the park's construction team, headed by the lead designers at the park: Paul and Martin Clapp.
Beelzee Bob's trail closed in 2007 and underwent a year long refurbishment that cost the park upwards of £1m. This refurbishment rebranded the dark ride into the much loved "Over The Hill".
Over The Hill suffered from constant technical issues with it's animatronics and sound triggers, in the later stages of Over The Hill's life the ride had become a lot less lively due to a lack of care from the
maintanence department at the park. Over The Hill closed its doors in 2017 and underwent a controversial change which rebranded the ride to "Over The Hill 2: Spooksville".
Over The Hill 2: Spooksville is the current rendition of the park's ghost train. Many people were, and still remain, unhappy with this rebranding. Many of Over The Hill's ride elements and theme pieces still
remain within the ride, but the more scary elements have been removed and replaced with static 2D characters, making for a much more tame and infant friendly ride. While this does open up the ride for younger viewers,
it simultaneously dulls the ride for the park's more adolescent enjoyers. The park's overall shift to a more child-friendly atmosphere contradicts the original concept of the Red, Green and Blue ride bands.
Over The Hill 2: Spooksville is now 7 years old. Going by trend, the park will likely go for a refurbishment at some point within the next few years. This ride is too integral to the park's infrastructure, so a
removal is not likely. If Adventure Island were to give this ride another facelift, what direction would you want them to go in?
