Fun fact: bears sense of smell is stronger than a blood hounds. So if Nagga is both a bear and a dog, it would make sense that she has an even more powerful nose than the a average dog… maybe she has them combined to be even better than a bear

I hear people use this all the time to trash on yukones ability, but yeah like you said she was shown to bend two people at once, and for all we know she could have bent many more. In fact I'd say she almost definitely could Bend more considering she used the ability to get out of a high security Fire Nation prison, while limping out because of starvation and dehydration. I don't think blood bending the one guard to unlock her cell was enough

Hama invented the technique from scratch, on her own, in prison. I got the impression from Tarrlok and Amon's training that Yakone had been trained similarly, taught the technique, probably by one or both of his parents. They made a good point in the original series that being self taught can only get you so far, you need at least some amount of guidance, and while Hama was a master waterbender, she wasn't taught bloodbending, she reinvented it, and barely refined it in the decades afterwards because she had no one else to work with and was hampered by the assumption she could only do it during a full moon. Toph refined metalbending because she was determined, she wanted to reach it to others, and then all those other benders pushed each other forward to refine the technique even further. Competition and collaboration are the greatest drivers of change and progress, and after her escape, Hama basically had neither, she was mostly just preying on the relatively helpless. Also, she was fully capable of bending more than one person. Old Man Ding (was that what they called him?) specifically told the gang that he was one of several people being pulled towards the cave at the same time, there were people right in front of him who weren't as lucky with sunrise. And during the fight in the Puppetmaster, she controlled both Aang and Sokka at the same time until Katara started bending her.
@georgeferetatis1040
@georgeferetatis1040 Жыл бұрын
Also I believe that the spiritual and philosophical aspects play a role. For example with Zaheer who was so strong because he absorbed air nomad philosophy like a sponge. And while both Katara and Hama were masters of water bending they probably didnt fit the mold for a perfect blood bender. Katara obviously had a moral compass and Hama was just filled with rage and resentment (she was just kidnapping random farmers). At the same time the masters of this art are masters of manipulation: 1) a literal mafia boss who is so great at manipulating that the law couldn't catch up to him; 2) a corrupt politician who easily turns the government fascist; 3) and a terrorist leader
@Great_Olaf5
@Great_Olaf5 Жыл бұрын
@@georgeferetatis1040 That is an excellent angle that 8 hadn't thought of. But you've got a point, the different bending styles do have different personalities and philosophies associated with them, and the aub-elements should be no different. Hence things like the very stubborn bit fairly fluid Korra having little trouble with metal bending, but the very go with the flow Bolin struggling with it, but managing lavabending just fine.

a proper adventure game that has a stealth section like that could be cool. however it is implied Amon can sense peoples presence using bloodbending, in a way similar to Tophs seismic sense but think more akin of a heat signal sonar. it might be how he is so agile too, so you probably cant hide in the same room as that MF, he can basically sense your blood and thats terrifying, i imagine his pov when sensing people with blood bend is like he sees bright red outlines of people, perhaps even pulsing like a heartbeat.

This is always a weird take for me, of course he cares, and is willing to do whatever he can, because Korra is literally kidnapped. It hardly matters what his feelings are, someone was kidnapped, and he can help, it's like the whole town coming out into the woods to find a lost kid, those guys will stay out there for days looking, until the search area is exhausted, or they're likely to find a body, rather than a child, they'll go in the dark, in the middle of winter, with barely flashlights and heavy coats, and people are only going back for like a half hour at a time, with hundreds of people looking

About Tarlok and the glove. The source of the discharge is the glove; it creates a circuit with whatever it touches, resulting in a shock as the electricity travels between the glove and, in this case, an arm. The circuit isn't passing through his hand, and it's safe to assume that the glove has controls to turn the circuit on and off.

When I originally saw this episode and Sokka is the first to be attacked via blood bending, kinda thought they were gonna "hint" at Sokka's death. Also when Aang was captured the 2nd time via blood bending, I thought that's when we were gonna do the reincarnation scene into Korra's birth, similar with Roku dying to the volcano and it flashes to Aang being born. Although the Adult Aang Avatar state was pretty awesome. It's kind of a shame we don't see how Aang died, probably natural causes maybe. I mean we saw Roku's death who was the Avatar before Aang so kinda thought we'd get the same treatment here.

I like your content and you really do point out and pick up on a lot of stuff I wouldn’t have noticed. For instance, the commentary on Amon’s inhuman scariness was really good and put into words a lot of my thoughts. I do however think you would do well to do some proper research beforehand to polish this up. For instance the technologies thing, Cabbage Corp are frequently shown to be the main competitors to Sato industries, so that whole ramble about what’s their competitors are doesn’t really make sense. And on Naga’s smell, she’s a polar-bear-dog - in addition to dogs having good senses of smells, polar bears have an incredible sense of smell too. Those are really nitpicky things, but I feel like that’s in the spirit of this sort of thing. :) There are examples from previous episodes as well, but this one was fresh in my mind. But like I said, good content and I look forward to more.

Tarlock had no way to be sure if Korra could metalbend or not, even if she never did it in front of him or told anyone, so he chose to play it safe. Also I understand why they had to find a way to counter/nerf metalbenders in the show if they were going to be way more prevalent

About Yakone and the psychic blood bending. We've seen in ATLA multiple times someone bending without the martial art forms - without any movement at all. Mad King Bumi could Earthbend with his face. Iroh and Ozai could breathe Fire. The Combustion Man could Firebend with his mind. Bending is supposed to be an extension of your body, and while the martial art forms based on the spirits and animals help achieve that, they aren't necessary to bend. Sokka had just brought up the Combustion Man in specific to foreshadow Yakones skills. Additionally, different benders have different potential. Hama had to train every full moon for years to learn Bloodbending, but Katara got the hang of it BETTER than Hama in one episode. Korra haters need to chill out and remember what actually happened in ATLA before criticizing LOK lol. Y'all remember Iroh going from a fat old man to absolutely jacked IN A DAY?!
@unkindled6410

tbf with the Iroh argument, i think its implied he trained for many days and they just time skipped all that. although even if he spent hours a day training, him going from fatass to ripped enough to literally punch his way through all the guards in his prison in very likely less than a month, is extremely impressive.

I think the box in Tarrlock´s is platinum, I mean, the guy lives in a city with what is literally a mini-army of metalbenders, and platinum doesn´t seem to be as scarce, although yeah, that´s just especulation yeah, the love triangle is weird, but I´m guessing they had to rush it like a lot of stuff this season to make the 12 episode cut and Korra passing out to me felt more like the exhaustation finally catching up with her after the adrenaline fades, let´s not forget, she wen´t through a lot beforehand whith no rest, she didn´t rest at all the night before she confronted Tarlock, fought him, got a lot of minor but definitly jarring injuries (cuts and the like), then got bloodbent (which, considering it works around blood pressure, probably worsen the injuries), got smashed against a rock pilar head on, then went right back to alert mode when she woke up to see herself being kidnapped (a very stressful situation under normal circumstances, even more so under Tarlock), probably spent the ride in panic mode trying to find a way to escape, then was bloodbent again the whole way to that box (worsening and reopening the cuts and healing wounds), then probably spent hours banging against that metal box and trying to escape (taxing both, her body and mind) until she decided to meditate, in that medittion she ws probably focusing in understanding what Aang was showing her, not much in actually resting her mind and body, then we see her strugling phisicaly when Aang was bloodbent, then went from angry to terrified when Tarlock and Amon came, then had to lift her body while being careful to not touch any surface on the (very) claustrofobic box, and finally had a last adrenaline shock after seeing Amon sorry if its a lil´bit too much for just a point, but most of it is recap so...

Blood bending is far too powerful imo. Its one balancing factor was that it was limited by the need for the moon and that it could only work on 1 person at a time. I can accept the idea that a person's mental state can boost their power, but if that were the only factor, then Azula should be able to fire bend as though she were boosted by the comet at all times. I just felt like this show dumped power creep on everything just to raise the stakes. Because Yakone for example is so powerful that he is literally the bender version of Superman within this show. Only the Avatar in the avatar state was able to resist it. So.... ONE person in the entire world can stop a blood bender? That is a horribly designed power balance in this World.

ye.... Bloodbending everyone around you without movement or fullmoon has no precedence and no viewer could guess its existence before hand. It's kinda akin to how in One Piece sometimes the villain will have a Devil Fruit power that makes their control over a kingdom possible and gets bloated with abilities like Sugar on Dressrosa, Moria on Thrillerbark or Bigmom on Wholecake Island. But this is not actually a bad writing choice necessarily. In OP these characters are all used to great effect and I love em, and here in Korra it immediately strikes a connection between Tarlok and Amon. The reveal that they are siblings is satisfying and makes sense, and when we see the backstory of how Yakone razed them it highlights their bad upbringing. It all just clicks suddenly. So even tho this may seem cheap, on a narrative stand point this actually works well I think. Tho Amon really does feel like a God being able to perform crazy martial arts, bloodbend and even take bending away forever, but as long as there are just one of him it's ok I think.

Still a lot of work to piece that together for a throwaway line tho lol. though you could argue that the truck would also block smell too. I don't know, that was just my best guess 🤷‍♂

My personal theory on Yakone is that because blood bending has now been around for several decades (hence why it has been outlawed for so long), some people would not only have the ability, some people would be trailblazers for improving techniques and effectiveness within that field. It's one of the reasons why Katara was able to not only use blood bending herself, but also learn some new abilities with it.

The question of the sotomobile is a good one. personally I think there are other corporations that make cars, but future industries is just simply the biggest main brand. Kinda like Oreos and other brands of cream cookies, they both exist but so many people buy the Oreos that half the cookie section of the store is just Oreos. As for the blood bending and insanity making it more powerful, I think not. Personally I think yakone is so powerful with it is more of how much he has trained with it. After hama invented it and got good she stopped training in it and just started using it, satisfied with the power and probably struggling to further it without someone to at least bounce ideas off of. Yakone on the other hand had a teacher and has, most likely, been training in it for decades. The way I see it blood bending seems so strong, especially in Korra, because we see it used by masters and grand masters. Like you I can definitely see why people would want blood bending to be illegal, but I would be on the people trying to legalize it. My main points would break the law anyway and the only 3 defenses against blood bending are avatar state, psychic bending and being a more powerful blood bender. Out of those 3 options the last is probably the most obtainable. Also can you imagine a blood bending police force, even when restricted to the full moon. The moment one of those guys hits the scene of a crime in progress it is done. Might actually make the nights of the full moon crime free, because crooks would be too scared to try anything on those nights.

I think there is precedent for someone's mental state to effect their bending. Bending is a martial art and is rooted to the spiritual and mental sides of personal development. We see examples of this numerous times throughout both shows. You could also pull a concept from Star Wars here and say that the kind of mental path that 'evil' characters like Yakone and Azula take is the "quick and easy path" that Yoda talks about in ESB, which is why they're so powerful at first compared to the average bender, and that the kind of study and meditation that Aang and Tenzin and many other characters take is more of the long way round but is rooted in fundamentals and has a stronger foundation overall, making them ultimately more powerful. I'm sure there's a hole in this argument somewhere but I feel like it makes a bit of sense

HFM did a video how advanced techniques are probably contingent on accessing addition chakras. Combustion bending for example comes the traditional firebending chakra in the stomach, but is also tide to the Light chakra in the forehead. With both chakras "open" in the correct mental state, firebenders gain this ability. Amon is simply forcing those chakras closed, cutting people off from bending.

Damn, the equalists are so cool. Amon is my favorite villain frmo TLOK, I like him even more than Zaheer, for two main reasons, because I actually like both of their motivations and how they're not "I'm bad gonna do bad stuff", but instead something that is actually realistic to have people believing in, but the main reasons I like Amon more are because: 1-He is way cooler, and yeah, being cool makes a villain better cause villains are meant to be cool. And 2, because he don't only shows up because a plot convenience caused by a horrible season, yes I'm talking about the random airbenders bullshit that that dogshit season 2 made, yes I hate that plot point and it's the main reason why season 1 is my favorite instead of season 3, I hate random airbenders

"it is time for you to be equalized" Amon probably says this more for his followers than for us. To him it's like putting on a play for an audience. Sh*t, now I can't stop thinking how cool it would have been for everything to be fake and people bending wasn't actually taken away, people were hired just to pretend it happened, and anyone not hired ending up believing so much that the bending had been removed from those people, that their own minds stopped them from bending. Would have had way more impact and be much more thought provoking.
@Poonchow
@Poonchow 2 жыл бұрын
I like think Amon's method of "removing" bending is just blocking chakras. Like pinching nerves or the flow of chi. People could technically get their bending back over time and extremely tedious therapy but it could take years outside of the avatar's assistance.

@Poonchow

@@mattevans4377 I think it's a neat idea. I just tried to put a spin on it through the in-universe connection to spirituality and its connection to bending. Amon isn't taking away peoples' bending - he's convincing them through his own blood bending that it's gone forever and their subconscious fills in the rest. Bending requires some spiritual connection we've seen. It's why all air nomads are benders and comparatively few Earth nation natives are benders. "Blocking" bending is like a hypnotist using their own bending to convince someone they can't bend anymore. Technically, they could regain the connection with time and guidance, but they instinctively try to bend right after it's "blocked" and suddenly feel like it's gone forever - a similar reaction people have to Chi Blockers but that's a well known phenomenon so people don't freak out as much. Once they've given up hope of bending again they've helped "block" themselves making Amon's claims seem more convincing.

10:58 just made me realize that they kept these police officers, all metalbenders, in a prison that can apparently be bended quite easily. I can accept that they might not have had the resources for platinum bars, though that should be doable considering the alliance with Hiroshi and how long they've been able to plan for fighting metalbenders, but even then I would expect them to be under heavier guard than just 2 ninjas since 5 trained officers should be able to overwhelm them and break out fairly easily. Of course they'd still have to escape the rest of the structure, but still.

one funny thing about platinum is that, it is also a damn good metal overall, it is the most ductile known metal, meaning it doesnt lose its properties by being heat up or electrified or anything of sort, it is very dense but also maleable, and its also very heat and corrosion resistant. the problem is that this shits more expensive than gold because its also rarer in nature, so the fact we see whole production lines of armored vehicles and even a gigantic mecha made out of that means that platinuns either WAY more common in the avatar universe or these people have a ludicrous ammount of money.

@hammarkids542
@hammarkids542 11 ай бұрын
I don't get where people think Asami is unnecessarily toxic. It's hard to explain but as a teenager, when your partner/crush stops showing you affection and focuses it on someone else instead, it's really worrying. The past few times with Mako helping Korra into the car and then here he freaks out after she's been kidnapped are fine, but right at the end he puts ALL of his affection into Korra instead, he picks her up and carries her away from everybody else, he strokes her hair, it's weird as hell and Asami definitely has a right to be upset and heartbroken by it, especially now that she knows Mako and Korra kissed before, that would for sure put anybody on the defensive and go confront their partner. The last time Mako and Asami were seen showing affection to each other is The Aftermath. Korra gets more affection from Mako then Asami ever does, which is why I hate him doing this so much in the first season
