Overanalyzing SMG4 - The Waluigi Arc

I think what one of the reasons that made WOTFI fit in within this arc was that the stakes weren't as high as the other arcs, Sure making people zombies is quite a powerful thing but it wasn't as bad as pretty much dying, being erased, being sued, (pretty much being erased but more punishing) having the whole world in danger, having the whole world in danger+ And the Smg4 arcs are way too predicable now, almost as if it's an excuse to have a theme for a unique WOTFI for a year. What would be least expected now was if an arc started because of a WOTFI, as not only it's a way to descend from lighthearted to being dark, but also the reason is most of the Smg4 arcs have leaned onto making a WOTFI an ending to them.

I love this arc. It's my favorite SMG4 arc. The Rapper Bob Arc is a close second. And honestly, this arc had the best pacing imo. The Rapper Bob Arc and KZbin Arc were great, but they ended too soon. And the Genesis Arc and maybe Revelations Arc dragged on for too long with filler. But this has great pacing that doesn't end too soon, but it doesn't drag on for too long. And also, this is the only arc to implement Wotfi properly in its end. The KZbin Arc was forced, and the Genesis Arc had the worst implantation of a Wotfi in an arc I've ever seen.

The Waluigi Arc is my favorite. Back in the day, I wanted the Waluigi shirt and pin so bad. But since my parents despise video game stuff, I never got them. Now they're gone forever and I'm sad. I really wanted to have them, showing that I was there for that very first arc.

I remember being blown away the first time I saw The Mario Convention, despite all the references to an arc happening with Waluigi's appearances I never suspected anything, I just enjoyed the comedy and wholesomeness of the episodes as I had normally done in all the past years of SMG4, so the tone change when Waluigi turned everyone into Zombies was night and day, there had been nothing like it on SMG4 before and for the first time ever it seemed like they were telling serious stories with higher stakes (for the time anyway), especially since I had seen the original T pose virus episode before that, and seeing it return with no cure was an interesting subversion. I actually missed SMG4 from mid 2018 to late 2019, so was binge watching everything up to that point, I was surprised again when I found SMG4 made another arc not long after the Waluigi arc expanding upon Bob, and the anime arc after that changed everything with Saiko being banned, the introduction of Axol, Desti's death and Meggy's transformation into a human and the challenges she faced thereafter. The channel isn't perfect and there are character and pacing ups and downs but arc wise it seems like Luke and Kevin outdo themselves each year.

i thought the arc and the videos that came out around that time were alright, but i still miss the older content better and thats why i havent watched his videos in at least a year or more. I dont know if its just me, but i really prefer the videos without much of a story or point like the videos i loved that made me find the channel: Freddy's Spaghettiria, the 2spooky story, the ssenmodnar videos, and of course war of the fat Italians videos. I dont have any true hate for the change, part of this might have been due to just simply growing out of an interest over time. Either way his videos i did enjoy are always looked back at fondly.

This might be considered a hot take, but I think the Waluigi Arc was the only good SMG4 story arc. To me, the rest of them feel like they’re trying too hard to 1-UP the Waluigi Arc, and they don’t feel as interesting to watch. They should’ve just made the arcs a one-time thing, a nice celebration of the evolution of SMG4, and kept it at that.

I agree wholeheartedly. We didnt need the other arcs. This was the only one we ever needed. The rest are either eh or suck.

I think the Anime Arc and the KZbin Arc were pretty good and did a good job fleshing out both Meggy and SMG3 respectively. I agree that the other arcs were unnecessary though, especially the Rapper Bob Arc which served no real purpose, and the two Zero Arcs which feel like SMG4 is trying too hard to be something it's not

I think WOTFI 2018 is the only WOTFI i enjoyed in an arc! Don't get me wrong WOTFI is great! But it just feels forced when it's in an arc! 2020 oh a new random character appeared forcing them to fight! 2021 random portals randomly appear forcing them to fight Mario which didn't matter anyway because even when they lost there wasn't any negative consequences! But 2018 actually makes kinda sense!

The Waluigi Arc extremely destroyed my expectations on SMG4 forever since it was all just about Retarded Humor until Luke and Kevin became serious with the lore that payed off a little to well for us to handle. Plus it also showed (imo) that Meggy was the character in giving off potential for the first saddest moment when she was a T Pose Zombie which was a foreshadow on her Arc. Nevertheless it's one of the best things I've seen on KZbin since the beginning of this website.

The Waluigi arc was one of the only three good arcs, The other two being The Rapper Bob arc and The Anime Arc, And it was easily the best one out of the three. The following arcs were ok for what they were, But nowhere close to the level of quality as before. The thing that makes this arc the easiest to go back to for me is the episodic approach it has by having several videos that feature their own unique storylines that make them stand out instead of the approach the later arcs took where most episodes are a progression of an overarching storyline, With the exception of WOTFI 2018, Mario Scam Artist, and the Waluigi Apocalypse you can pretty much watch any of the other episodes on their own. This isn't possible in the later ones. Also have to give major props to this arc for making the WOTFI ending an arc trend actually good and fit right in line with the previous WOTFI's, Because with the exception of WOTFI 2019 the later WOTFI's completely disregard the series' overall concept of it being a competition between Mario and SMG4, That was how it started out as in 2011 and the fan selected challenges were later added to the idea in 2014. The fan selected challenges were just about the only thing WOTFI 2020 and WOTFI 2021 had that resembled the original series, Whereas WOTFI 2018 kept the original dynamic in tact and added a twist to the formula, The only thing missing from it is the "You decide" comment votes but that was clearly removed due to it not fitting with the story. No other arc that's happened since has been able to replicate the same feeling most had while watching this one, It does have some minor flaws regarding some of the lesser episodes being forgettable but overall it holds up quite well and I can see why arcs became a channel staple following this one, It's unfortunate that none of the later ones were able to strike this perfect balance, But oh well.

Imo, the anime arc wasn't good. Sure, it added the threat of characters dying but the story was dragged for way too long, and wasn't that interesting, and the ending with Desti's death was pathetic. Oh no a character that was in like 5 episodes that everybody hated is now dead. They played her death up so much showcasing everyone suffering from her death while she was a minor character, yet Axol (a main character and friend) died and has gotten nothing, no funeral, no clear emotions of people missing him (besides Melony in the BBQ episode).

I don't think it's nearly as good as the Waluigi Arc is, But I still find it to be pretty good in comparison to what came later. Sure, Desti's death was played up more than what was probably warranted, Sure, It went on longer than the first two did. But I still think the execution was really well done and I appreciate a lot of the risks it took. It was the end of an era in a way since after it concluded Luke stepped down from being the videos' main producer and things haven't been the same since. It's more so the outcome of the anime arc that I take issue with rather than the arc itself, The arc as a whole is fine outside of the mess it created. A bit flawed but not terrible.

@@NostalgiaEgg Yeah, the story was good and left people eager for what's to come. The Genesis arc kind of had that but by the backrooms episode we all knew Axol was going to die so there wasn't anything shocking. I do agree that the channel hasn't been the same since the anime arc.

I have a weird theory that Mario might figure out he is not "real" and turn on everyone, where am I getting the idea for this theory, it's from SMG4: Uncanny Mr. Mario. if you go from 3:44 to 4:06 the rabbit tells Mario he is not real and all his friends are not real. but after that its even talked about again, my theory is Mario going to find out he's not real and turn on everyone
