Something that was in the novelization of this movie that I wish got in was that while Han shouts up to Jabba, he's faced the wrong way, and Chewie has to manually turn him around to face Jabba. I always thought that was a funny moment that probably should've been in the film.

10:43 With Yoda's confirmation of his lineage, Luke now understands his vision from the cave in 'The Empire Strikes Back.' That's how he knows there's still good in the Dark Lord. Vader is Luke's shadow, and Luke is Vader's light. Booth have to power to turn the other over.
@threadsketch72673 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'd wanted to mention to Gold Man - a year is a decent span of time for Luke to do a lot of thinking, and for both empathy and desperation to bring him to the conclusion that there's still good in Vader. Obi-Wan described Anakin as "a good friend" on top of the basic info that he was once a Jedi Knight. Fresh off of Bespin, Luke was reeling, but after being able to step back and mull things over, Luke likely seized on the fact that in his extremely twisted way, Vader still wanted a paternal relationship with him. Lastly, Luke has now realized how thin the line is between him and the Dark Side (though still not as intimately as he will during his confrontation with the Emperor). If he can bring his father back, then that means there's hope for himself too; conversely, if there's no redemption for Vader, Luke is doomed as well if he goes down that path. Vader is no longer a faceless monolith of evil, there's a man somewhere behind that literal and figurative mask, a man who shares Luke's blood. I can buy his determination to find that man for reasons that are altogether compassionate, self-aware, and despairing.
@antoinechery91173 ай бұрын
@threadsketch7267 Exactly! Luke, like any rebel, wants to end this war but knows that in doing so, he's likely to succumb to his dark side. Saving Vader through love and compassion is his way of saving his own soul and distancing himself from the old Jedi Order. He's a Jedi Knight of a new kind, but first and foremost, Luke is a good man.
@threadsketch72673 ай бұрын
@@antoinechery9117 Yep, couldn't have said it better myself (and I enjoyed your original comment about how each of them is a mirror for the other in terms of what could've/should've been). Luke is a good man because when the chips were down, he chose understanding rather than violence. That's what makes him such a powerful figure in any imagining of a post-ROTJ world, because he comprehends what can push people to such terrible lengths and how there's always a choice available to turn back from that. The inspiration of Luke Skywalker as an iconic pop culture character isn't that he's the son of the Chosen One and has the potential to be the greatest Jedi ever based on his family lineage, it's that he stared into the abyss and not only said no to it, but extended a hand and asked if it would follow him instead.

The new game, Star Wars: Outlaws, is meant to be between TESB and ROTJ, I think. There are missions featuring Jabba, and I think Lando is meant to cameo, too. What if Kay Bess's mission to Jabba's palace is an infiltration mission to search for Han? Retroactively making Kay as Lando's source in finding Han.

4:56 I wouldn't call Lando totally useless. Sure, he completely failed to defeat that guard and needed to be rescued. But he definitely served a purpose. If he hadn't been there, then that guard could've shot Luke or Han or Chewbacca. Possibly worse, because if it hadn't been Lando as a Skiff guard, then there had been a Jabba loyalist and Luke would've needed to fight off two more opponents. Lando definitely served a purpose. It just wasn't a heroic purpose. Other than that, you raise some good points

1:48 Mark Hamil is left handed but he was taught to fence/sword fight right handed. Also, my dark interpretation of Star Wars is that nobody actually cares about the droids (the few people who do are actually exceptions rather than the rule), the same way the Jedi don't seem to care about the clones (effectively a slave army).

Something that's always confused me, is WHY does Jabba like dressing women in sleezy outfits? He's a fat slug creature that is an entirely different species. We know for a fact that females of the same species are just as fat and sluggish as Jabba is... So why is he attracted to humanoid women? Is this like the Star Wars equivalent of being a Furry or something? I know its probably just to show Jabba's immorality, but its still strange... I bet it was really just an excuse for them to put Leia in a metal bikini.
@threadsketch72673 ай бұрын
Yeah, it was retconned in later lore that Jabba was considered a pervert and a weirdo by his own species precisely for that reason of being attracted to humanoid females. (And yes, you're 100% correct that it really was just an excuse to shove Carrie Fisher in a metal bikini.)

2:25 Obi-Wan when Qui-Gon dies? Anakin flying the starfighter? Watto either always scheming or being pissed? Shmi and Anakin when he's leaving? There's plenty of emotion in TPM if you actually think about it. Just not for the Jedi Council or Senate scenes, which is probably all you were thinking of. But even then, Chancellor Valorum's look of defeat after the vote of no confidence is really good.

As a life long Boba Fett fan I will openly admit there is zero logic behind Boba Fett becoming what he was. Here is the deal. I watched Star Wars from... as longas I can remember. My love of Boba Fett is illiogical and based mostly on one important factor. My childhood imagination. What Boba Fett ACTUALLY was in the film nattered very little to 8 year old me. What mattered was he looked fucking cool and his ship looked fucking cool. My love for Boba Fett is not about "well in the film" it is the years making up my own adventures and drawing Boba Fett and his ship when I should have been doing my long division home work. Boba Fett forever.

@@starwarsoveranalyzed When the Movie came out in the Theaters But Mainly on VHS It was often seen as Weak or Lazy Writing. As was the 2nd Death Star. We had to wait for Jedi to be released but, Star Wars and Empire left gaps for our imagination to run wild and it did!! lol I still clung to the hope that secretly Obi Wan was Luke's dad. lol But After Jedi there was no going back. @@RedCaio it's out of character for a Jedi to be able to control lightning like that. Plo Koon was the only one able to use force judgment, and it took a lot out of him to use it not give into the dark side. Plus, it ruins force ghosts by showing they can interact with the world. Obi-Wan saying he cannot interfere in V was just an excuse now. And it opens the question of why all the force ghosts didn't just show up and kill Palpatine in tros.

well Qui-Gon was an excellent addition, and Obi-Wan still took it upon himself to train Anakin. He didn't have to fulfill his promise. But he did. Anakin even almost chose to leave at one point in a book or comic, but Obi-Wan convinced him to stay.
