One piece of advice I always gave my students was to reframe 'being nervous' as 'getting hype'. That same adrenaline that is turning your legs to jelly is the same thing you will need in the battle to pull off that flare combo, it just needs to be channelled correctly.

Another piece of advice that I got from Slash from Guns and Roses (don't ask, lol) is to reduce the stimulation at times. I always wear a baseball hat and I pull it down when I come in so that I can only hear the beat. It's a great way to block out all that other stuff that can be so distracting.

Oh is that why he started wearing the top hat? Makes a lot of sense.

I’ve got a battle in 2 weeks and this vid has been really helpful. I’m facing a kid that’s already doing windmills and head spins so that had me crapping bricks! But know that I’ve used some of these tricks and tips, I feel a lot more confident. One thing that I would add is “turn nerves into excitement” which really helps. Instead of saying “of shoot I have face bboy whatever, I don’t if I can take em” Change your attitude to “oh yah! I’m about to battle bboy whatever LETS GO!!”

I love your videos! May I suggest getting a mic setup like to reduce noise and echo? It would level these videos up a bit more.

Great video use to and still sometimes struggle with this but is a lot better since meditation and tai chi, meditation is a key, train the mind. Embrace the pain and you will win this game, the greatest opponent will hide in the last place we ever look.

I have to find a way to deal with overstimulation. My nervous system is quite overreactive. When I'm overstimulated, it's hard to focus for me and I'm really clumsy (Dad is surprised that I can eat with chopsticks or draw quite well) and, after some time, I get a headache. @.@
