Rushwan was an absolutely respectable and honorable judoka. I still remember this match. Both Yamashita and Rushwan deserved gold medal.

23‏/07‏/2010 - Yamashita heads the Japan-based nonprofit organization aimed at spreading judo internationally. Yamashita told the children about the time that Egyptian judoka Mohamed Ali Rashwan did not target Yamashita's injured right leg in the final of the men's judo open weight class at the Los Angeles Olympics.

Una delle gesta memorabili della storia delle Olimpiadi moderne. Anche il gesto del judoka egiziano sconfitto, che aiuta uno zoppo Yamashita a salire sul podio, delinea la vera essenza dello sport.

Indeed; he could have likely won the match by attacking the injured leg. And you see the sportsmanship in the medal stand as well. Injury or not, Yamashita could have - perhaps should have - easily lost this match, and it would be interesting to speculate what that would have done to his legacy. One of his strongest claims to being the greatest judoka ever is being undefeated the last 8 years of his career. With a loss here, he doesn't have that, and he has no Gold medal either.

He did attack the injured leg.. "Films of the match, however, reveal that not only did Rashwan attack Yamashita’s injured leg, it was his first move in the final."

Mohamed Ali Rashwan - Egypt Two-time world silver medallist Mohamed Ali Rashwan exuded judo's core values of honour, respect and integrity. In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic openweight final the Egyptian famously avoided targeting the injured right calf of his opponent Yasuhiro Yamashita and had to settle for silver. Ali Rashwan won an international fair play award for his conduct and the everlasting respect of his compatriots and the Japanese fans. His Olympic result inspired him to win back-to-back world silver medals in 1985 and 1987 in South Korea and West Germany respectively. Ali Rashwan retired from competing in 1992 and is now a top-class international referee and key member of the Egyptian Judo Federation. www.insidethegames.biz/sports/summer/judo/judo-hall-of-fame

It is a story made. Rashwan is attacking the injured leg as soon as the game starts. Look at the video of the full game.

Hey BowAndArrow...Muhammad Rashwan give the match because he is a Muslim and it's not from Islam to hurt anyone..and it's not a fair fight to fight with an injured man..Also he is not gonna quit the match so the solution was to let him win....after that Rashwan won the world fair player..and he is very famous until now in Japan..until now they invite him in Japan and replay his match again to the children there and make Rashwan explain to them why he didn't like to have a fake winning..

TheWolfstunts we are talking about sports and you bring religion into this. People are sick of hearing about your religion. You don't have to make everything about islam and keep spewing your bullshit everywhere you go.
