Hi Liel, When you mentioned the earth opening and fire, reminded me of a question that I've been pondering and unable to find an answer. I left christianity and very interested in Orthodox Judaism. Can you explain the afterlife concerning punishment? This beleive is really bothering me and I'm having trouble figuring it out. Please help! Hi. I hope it's okay with Liel if i respond to your Q. For the most part, the spiritual suffering that occurs after a person passes away is a cleansing process, to clean the soul of any blemishes it wasn't cleansed of while still alive, so that it can be pure and beautiful to delight in closeness to God in Gan-Eden (the spiritual realm "heaven" where souls delight in God, waiting till the resurrection etc). There is however a level of sinning/disconnection from God, where a person can lose their portion in eternal life. If you have any specific Q's would be glad to help/respond if i can.

It’s called gehenom, a cleansing process that the soul goes through once it moves on, it cleanses the soul of all stains it accumulated during it’s life on earth. Atones for what the soul couldn’t atones for in it’s life. And we’re told it’s a highly painful process. For the soul sees it’s wrongs and can’t bare it. But this process of purging the stains needs to be done in order for the soul to be close to the Light of the Creator. The soul then moves on to gan eden, a heavenly realm of spiritual bliss, where the souls await there until the times of redemption and the world to come.

Written torah doesn't say, but we know they're created, & just bc torah doesn't say what day, doesn't mean they weren't created during 6 days etc. How did noach know what animals were kosher or not? How did yehuda know about the mitzva of yibum before the giving of the torah? Deuteronomy 12:21 says that if we want to eat meat it needs to be slaughtered "according to the way I instructed you", where are those instructions? What was Moshe's original name given by his mother before Pharo's daughter named him Moshe? There is only so much information that can fit into a scroll, the Torah had an oral component to it passed down from sinai with the keys & 13 rules of exegesis which make the entire torah an open book. Part of that oral tradition in understanding God's ways passed down to us by the prophets, are matters that have to do with life after death, souls, their cleansing process, the world to come ie: after the days of mashiach & so on etc.

Hello! That’s awesome! I recommend the chumash (5 Books of Moses) , the stone edition. A a dark blue color. You can find it on Amazon or art scroll website. Has it in Hebrew and English as well as commentary. I’ve had it for 5 years now bH.
