She is amazing. I read a book called it didn’t start with you. Trauma is definitely passed down through generations.
@beemonique8466 Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. Generational. My Mom passed in October and she was a major source of my anxiety- So said to say. I loved her although it was hard to love her. Unfortunately, she was very manipulative and toxic. I knew that she went through lots of toxicity and generational curses and never really overcame it, nor broke the cycles. We talked and I would ask her to try doing things differently but, she would just get sarcastic with me and defensive. I was her only daughter. I have two brothers who were of no help during her decline. It was very emotional and hard to watch her decline and eventually pass away. It took a toll on me. I suffer with anxiety now, well actually from years before but, I didn't identify with it because, yes I thought that I could fix it myself. I'm now in therapy and I talk to God daily, several times during the day. She passed away without telling her children things that we really should have known- even as kids. I forgave her and I told her. It makes me sad to think about it or her. Life is hard and we dont have the tools, that's why therapy is great, but God is Amazing!
@williewhite169 Жыл бұрын
Bee Monique Willie White 1 second ago You do have the tools. You were born with them. You just have to activate the tools and power that’s lying dormant in you. It sounds like your mother was a sociopathic narcissist. A therapist specializing in such disorder may have helped you to effectively deal with your mother. What you refer to as generational curses are environmental, social, cultural, and psychological learned behavior. The entire concept of generational curses is not scriptural and not supported by the Bible. The term generational curses is a term created by Pentecostal doctrine. Neither this term nor the theology associated with it is found in the Bible. In other words, you are being bound by erroneous doctrine. Numbers 14:18 states, “The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.” However God was speaking to “ the guilty” and this verse is solely applicable to Israel that had continuously sought after Egyptian gods. This verse is not applicable to born again believers. There is a trend in the church today to try to blame every sin and problem on some sort of generational curse. This is not biblical. God’s warning to visit iniquity on future generations is part of the Old Testament Law. A generational curse was a consequence for a specific nation (Israel) for a specific sin (idolatry). The history books of the Old Testament (especially Judges) contain the record of this divine punishment meted out. Ezekiel 18 makes it clear that God holds each individual responsible for his or her own sin. Verses 1 through 4 say, “The word of the Lord came to me: ‘What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: “The parents eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge”? As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child-both alike belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die.’” It’s not too late for you to get into therapy.
@jenniferjackson7054 Жыл бұрын
@@williewhite169I have a genuine question for you. Can you explain how some people repeat certain acts of sin as their fathers or mothers if they never knew them or were even told anything about them if there is no such thing as generational curses? I'm really curious because I hear conflicting messages and have wondered how is that possible if it's not a generational curse.

Omg yeeeeesssss I’m reading that book now and baaaaabbbyyyyy this book had me crying out to my moms spirit once I read the DNA chapter and then I went over my moms trauma of her losing her mom at a early age. She didn’t know of depression and trauma 😢no real drs as today to help you deal and heal. Her trauma is in my DNA then me longer when I was 11 yrs old and she was 39 yrs old and died of lung cancer…. I’m 55yrs old now and I’m still healing to this day. The older I get the harder it gets of me missing her and my dad they died 2yrs apart. But that book 😮really is the TRUTH!!!

This was very powerful, the "want to want to" prayer is so important. God will always meet us where we are but we also need to be honest with him in prayer sometimes we don't want to forgive but He will give us the desire to let go when we ask Him 🙏🏽

LPC/S here… much respect for Dr .Anita, very wise, intelligent and articulate. Thanks for bringing her on AO… but I must add this: Trauma never disappears so our bodies work to hold, heal and repair Trauma. My belief is that we hold on to trauma far too long before seeking help… Trauma redirects pathways in our brain, reshapes our heart and can eat us alive if left untreated. Trauma in our body alarms us, it gets our attention but timing is Everything!!! Your trauma can be a ticking time bomb…. Get the help you need before the Trauma. Truth be told.. Trauma can and will kill us!!!

I’m a black male soon to be 46 . I’ve seen a few counselors and I recently started seeing a new one that I really like but I feel like I’m not really expressing the weight of trauma on me and it’s weighing on my beautiful family when they constantly see me in a depressed/anxious state. Any advice on how I can really express it to my counselor? Thank you in advance.
@blkyogi999 Жыл бұрын
@@250milthanks for your reply. If you can’t be transparent with your Therapist, the space may not be in alignment with the safe space needed for youto be open. Begin journaling or just writing down your trauma and show it to your therapist and say.. “I need you to read this because this is what I want to start working on”…. If the Therapist ignores you and has their own agenda… Find a new therapist. I pray this helps 🙏🏾🙏🏾

I just had this same conversation with my family, after watching some episodes of Kindred… it reminded me of how much of this is passed on genetically. Trying to tell someone to forgive quickly is depriving them of the main source to help them forgive - HEAL. And I’m the video the dr expressed how close slavery still is in terms of generation. I just shared this thought with my family as well. We are still emotionally responsive to trauma that is being experienced daily internally and genetically. It’s being left unrecognized and deemed as normal while be labeled as a mental illness or disease. Wow! This is the most powerful interview yet…. 👏🏾

So true: it's not just what you are eating; it's what's eating you. So to stop eating pork, sugar, or carbs is NOT enough for systemic healing. The body, mind/spirit work in concert to produce whatever shows up in our lives. Also, if trauma is in our bodies due to the trauma of our ancestors, we begin the journey of life miles behind where we would have been had the trauma even slighty less defeating. How do we begin to heal wounds we don't know exists? Therapy, of course. I guess I'm impatient with the journey. We've been in the place so long.

This was EXCELLENT, Anthony! I like you and I like the guests that you have chosen to come on your show. It's always enlightening! Dr. Anita just may have changed my mind on how I feel about therapy. "Who woulda thunk?" Certainly not I. I'm very old school and a Christian and I just couldn't understand why you could possibly need anything more than Jesus, HOWEVER, He probably put therapists on this earth as an extension of His work. Like doctors, etc. And she made a very good point. When you get a headache, you take a pill and think nothing of it. However, when something is broken in your soul, it doesn't occur to you to get help. Very interesting and food for thought! Thank you for this. I will be "sharing" this video.
