As a long time professional touring sound guy, and volunteer church sound guy, thank you for being so kind to the church folks. I have worked in this business a long time and most (99%) FOH sound guys I have run into are a-holes (even the ones in the churches). You were so kind it was a breath of fresh air. May God bless you in your endeavours!

I'll have to start with audio and video always being interests of mine as well as lighting, I've learned quite a lot through personal research over the past decade or two. I had to get into something that could pay bills involving a certain American delivery service that doesn't specifically involve packages. I have far much more knowledge of a lot of things that I could go further with and I'm now being put into a position of helping clean up the audio of the church that I've been at for a couple of years and really looking forward to the experience of putting my knowledge to use and hopefully build a portfolio off of it.

Man I've watched all four episodes and I am still craving some more. Thank you for the help you are providing to these churches because speaking out of experience (as a person who does sound at my local church) most of us are just winging it due to the fact that finding a person who have experience is extremely difficult and VERY VERY EXPENSIVE so we just have to do with what we have and can to get by. So these videos for me are not just for entertainment but also try to learn as much as I can

Wow This was an amazing episode, it was definitely worth the wait regardless of the copyright. I can't express how much I love watching these. I used to setup sound in my highschool chapel and we had the craziest moments working with little to deliver an amazing experience for the school church services. So these episodes strike at the very bottom of my heart. I watched you literally deliver the mix from grass to grace. Thank you for the humility you potray which has enabled you give your time to help out these churches. About the windows PC crushing, yep. That was a bummer. Happened to me while I was Livestreaming a high level event with a whole Minister for Health. I had never sweated in my life like I did. The mapping chart is an amazing idea for anyone going in blind, I'm really new to any of this and going in somewhere blind would give me a panic attack unless you can work out your outputs quickly before a show, the console re-routing took less time than someone having a quick snack, lightning quickness, honestly whenever Chris Hammill is in the building... your in good hands..we need a clone of you in the UK man, the work you do is so brilliant, the church sounded fantastic and amazing drone footage of Texas too!

something that is often overlooked is a church investing in things that make thier band perform better. This could be hiring a worship leader that can coach the team or investing in resources to make individual band members better. Often when mixing, the abilities of the band is the hardest ceiling to overcome. You can treat the room, optimize processing but you get out what you put in.

Awesome Job! When it comes to setting up my desk and colour coding things, I always go; Red for Drums & Click, Blue for Bass and Electric Guitar, Green for Keys, Light Blue (If I have it) for Acoustic guitars, White for Vocals, Purple for FX, and Yellow for Strings or anything from the PC/tracks. For Wireless mics for the Pastor I tend to Colour code them (eg, Red HH, Blue HS etc). My patchist usually looks like; Inputs - 1- Kick 2- Snare 3- R Tom 4- F Tom 5- OH L 6- OH R 7- Keys L 8- Keys R 9- Bass 10- EL Gtr 11- AC Gtr 12- AC Gtr2 13- WL1 14- WL2 15- BV1 16- BV2 17- Viola 18- Cello 19-24- Spare or additional instruments 25- Blue HH 26- Purple HH 27- Grey HH 28- Red HH Outputs - 1- Drums 2- Keys 3- Bass 4- El Gtr 5- WL1 6- WL2 7- BV1 8- BV2 The Cello and Viola are usually last minuet things that I throw a SM57 in front of and they don't want IEM's.

Love it. Never seen someone so excited for a Scarlett haha. I tried to do this once in college for a friend at a tiny church. Tried because all they had was a something like a 1980s Peavey PA-200 in a little loft I had to crawl to enter. I think it was something a little better than that, with maybe a 3-band, but oh man. Ancient powered mixer. That said, they had an amazing set of speakers and like 5 wireless Shure earset mics. Such a head scratcher. And I didn't even get to pet a horse. Bet you could turn this into a business all its own.

Love that you willing to give up time to help ministries out with their equipment. Currently in our church in Uk we are still running a Soundcraft spirit f16. There was talk of going down the x32 route when we had a refit of the church but at the time it was a (teaching old dogs new tricks senario) so stuck with analog. Done a lot of read ups and watched tons of vids of a x32 in the hope that one day I can get hands on with one

When you don't even need to identify a Brazilian, they always proud to wear the flag and wear flip flops anywhere 😂. Nice to see a fellow brazilian in such a nice city like that, congrats bro. Also, nice job Chris, keep on mixing!

The windows rant is 100% valid, people can hate on Apple all they want but Apple is insanely good on handling media (audio/video/picture), super accurate and reliable. Also, I used to go to a baptist church and it still bothers me that people don't stand up during worship... lol

I like these video you make, man. I am about to offer this service in my area (in addition to other sound/music services) and I get a kick out of "renovating" things. Making things look/sound new again. So seeing your vids and hearing the improvement (before and after) gives me energy and happiness. Inspiration too. Keep going! Good job!

One additional comment, the improvement in sound is likely to continue in most of these settings. Once the house and monitor sound are well balanced and each player/singer gets used to hearing a good mix, there overall performance will usually get better.

Like you, I also do local mix down meltdowns lol. I don’t know how familiar you are with RTA mics and tuning the speakers “room” with pink noise but it’s helped speed up the process for me. Again, great job. Doing the lords work

That’s good for tuning a room, but not for feedback hunting. Nearly all of the soundcheck was me adjusting the EQ because feedback popped up everywhere.

@@chrishammillaudio In those cases, where do you decide enough is enough trying to EQ feedback out? I've had the situation where you end up removing frequency after another and suddenly the sound is completely wrecked

my church previously had 200 people 30 years ago, and sadly has dropped to 20. We have an old Mackie SRM mixer, and cant afford a Behringer X32. At my school we have one, and I love digital mixers! I am the audio and visual tech at both

Chris, I park exclusively in end spots when I can find them for that reason. I don't trust people enough not to open their doors into my sides, even if it also damages their vehicle in the process.

I live less than 100 miles from this church. If they need some maintenance in the future and you’re unable to fly all the way out, I’m more than willing to help. ETA: I’m the FoH engineer at the Backyard Bar, Stage, and Grill, and freelance with a few bands on the road.
