What I've garnered from all these episodes is that Dad is either passive, lazy or absent (mentally and physically). Mum gets no support and the kids see mum as weak and so they have no resect for her because the husband has no respect for her. Every.single.husband.

My children refused to help me. I begged, screamed, offered payment for help, but my eldest had issues from my divorce and had the other ones refuse to help. I had them in counseling, but no change. I worked full time, disabled and lived in a house that Jack built. My life was exhausting and when I think back, I don't know how I did it all. Cooking from scratch, making lunches, changing the sheets on the beds, school meetings and so on. I love my babies, but I'm glad they are out of the house and on their own.

My Mum neither begged not offered payment. Neither my Gradma. I knew I have responsibilities and if do not complaint I will get no dessert or something like it. No one was doing special cooking for me but I was raised to eat with others. I knew since I was toddler I was the center of neither universe nor my family. I was a member of a family with my place, my duties and my privileges.

I’m sorry but they sound like sh*theads and I say it as a daughter. You’re probably a good person and they didn’t understand it because you most certainly gave them everything they needed and did everything for them. I also didn’t help cleaning as a kid, but that’s because my parents never taught me to clean and they were/are also hoarders, so for me not cleaning was normal. Only growing up I understood our problems. When I visited my friends houses, pretty much everything looked cleaned and mostly tidy. One day a “friend” who came to my house told to another friend that I had spiderwebs in my house. When my other friend told me that, only then I really realised that we had a problem. I eventually found out that my mom had and still has depression, and my father also has issues. Eventually I started to clean my own room, dishes, the kitchen, the whole house, the garden, feeding the animals, etc etc. Now I’m married and pregnant and I get stressed in cleaning after my husband and my pets lol. My in laws are here for two/three months to see our baby and I’m very stressed. They have no sense of hygiene or cleaning. Dirt and mess stresses me so much, especially in my house that I have to go see a psychologist. My husband doesn’t take me seriously when I tell him that having unnecessary mess gives me anxiety and even panic attacks. I’m on my 8th month of pregnancy and I have to clean after these old messy people now. They are nice people but I can’t stand them because they are so messy. I wash clothes and his mom touches them with unwashed hands. I saw her dusting my side mirror car with her own hand and then touching her face. They make me cringe so much. I hope your kids are aware of what it means to have someone who takes care of them. Especially if you were alone, it mustn’t have been easy. Many people underestimate the work we women have to do in the domestic prospective. It takes a lot of physical strength, stamina, mental strength and emotional intelligence to be able to keep a house and a family tidy and clean. These are important things that many people don’t realise unfortunately. Then when they get sick with viral diseases they don’t even know how they got sick…..

If one is overwhelmed, embarrassed, and hide the way they live from people, it's understandable to feel terrible about the living conditions. But it's perplexing how many people on this show are offended when "pride" is mentioned. Yeah, we get it, you're proud of your kids and family. But to those who are offended... are they "proud" that they can't have visitors? Proud that their children live in clutter and pure filth? Are they proud that they have shown the older and capable (and many times spoiled) children to be lazy and unproductive ? They should be ashamed. Get over your "pride" and be proactive instead. Take it as a humbling experience and learning lesson. Great job as always Kim and Mike.

i NEEDED THESE 2 ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO!!! My life and my four kid's lives was very much like the first family except the 3 youngest's father didn't pass until the youngest was 16, and the oldest one's father was never in the picture. However, even though i was married to the 3 youngest dad most of the time it was very much like he was never there, because he was either playing games or sleeping, and I kept track of most things in my head and knew what was in every pile of papers, clothes and whatever and it became more and more difficult to get them to help to the point I stressed less if I didn't ask. These two could have helped us get back on track, because it wasn't always that way for them and me, but they're all grown and doing well for themselves now and recognize just how much I did for them.
