One tip I learned long ago that really makes a difference: don't put sand in the sand bags. It easily leaks out and can also jam the zipper. Use small gravel instead. If you rinse it to get any small particles or dirt off and let it dry before putting it in your 'sand' bags, you won't have any issues with leakage or other annoying issues with your weight bags. I'm using bags that I filled with gravel five or six years ago and they're just like I filled them yesterday.

Hi Philip, thank you for the video. I have an old-fashioned tripod and an iPhone. I would like to figure out how to inexpensively film overhead. Very inexpensively, I just want to film a couple of videos. I can’t figure out what kind of an arm I would need vertically to attach to the tripod.

I have a two C-stand overhead, with some hefty build quality from Glide Gear. I thought about the camera shake and all. I replaced the cross bar with some schedule 40 aluminum framing pipe. Best $169 I ever spent. I even got me a 2nd one. Great channel. 🙏

Very nice sir! I currently shoot with GoPros on SNAP Mounts (magnetic mount) and I can throw the GoPro on the underside of my microwave to get a really stable top down shot of my cooking surface. Pretty niche setup but it works well for me. I will certainly have use of your tips one day far in the future when I have a fancier setup.

I don't understand this note in the Amazon link for the Newer C stand: NOTE: When you adjust the angle under the conditions that the weight on both sides of the joint head is not balanced, it will damage the screw that connects the two halves of the joint. SO PLEASE hold the rear part of the arm to keep the arm balanced firstly before adjusting the angle

Can anybody help? is it possible to turn a video around once it is shot? Just asking beacause most of these videos are shot from the "wrong" angle.
@rrmatt466019 сағат бұрын
I was able to turn video from profile view to landscape in post editing in DaVinci Resolve. But I have the paid version. Unfortunately, I have to take a second action to crop the view to fill the screen, and then it is too close up. I will have to re-film anyway because my overhead wasn't centered. I'm getting the C stand, it will be worth it! I was trying to balance a pole on a ladder with iphone on. It was a pain, plus my iphone kept locking, I can't disable that because of other security requirements on the phone. Luckily, I have an old DSR camera and am going to give that a try.

Another way to deal with focus is to use back button focus, something many pro photographers set up on their cameras as a matter of course. All major cameras - Nikon, Canon, Sony - have a setting for it. BBF separates focus from the shutter button, so instead of the 'half press' of the shutter button to focus, the focus function is removed from the shutter button and assigned to a different button on the camera. This button is usually on the back of the camera - hence the term 'back button focus'. When you focus this way, once you push the button on the back, focus is locked until you push the focus button again. So it accomplishes the same thing as manual focus but is usually quicker.
