You need to check songs like “not today”, “Run BTS”, “Attack on Bang Tan” or “Fire”… I mean they’ve been around for over a decade so.. and they open the doors of K-pop into the mainstream, and I’m a 2nd generation K-pop fan and mostly got into girl groups until they came into the scene.

This is not BTS typical style. They did this song during the pandemic as a feel-good song for everyone. BTS do all genres from hip-hop, rap, EDM, ballads, pop, etc. I would recommend danger, mic drop, blackswan, ON, to name a few as a group, but they all have solo work as well. I am 54 and grew up on rock and metal, but BTS is my favorite group. I can't get into most of other kpop groups because all the songs sound the same. With BTS no song sounds the same.

You can never know exactly what type of sound you're getting with BTS. You can listen to 2 random songs from their discography and chances are that they sound entirely different. Pair that variety with deep (often introspective and filled with social commentary) lyrics, genius wordplay and production, unparalleled stage performances, unique vocals, rap from experienced underground rappers and expert dancing and you have one of the greatest musical acts of all time. Others have already summarized what I'd otherwise want to say in these comments. Hope you continue to listen to more from them.

This song was meant to be a summer bop to help their fans deal with covid. It's one of three songs they did totally in English done during that time to reach a larger audience. If you take a little deeper dive you will find every genre of music. If you are looking for something a little different please check out BTS "On," "Fire," and "Mic Drop." They also all put out solo work that is so different, not only from BTS but from each other, everything from rock, hip hop, rap and jazz. Also their live music is usually better than the MVs.

36 year old Army. BTS Paved the way!! Keep in mind their English songs were created during the pandemic to get Army through it. They are poppy upbeat colorful but are in no way the true reflection of BTS. They are the most awarded group in history with over 1000 awards and 11 years active and going. All members (Jin completed his service) are currently serving in the military but will reunite in 2025. They have almost every genre under their belts. All have solo albums (Jin is working on his to be released later this year) and their genres are completely different. If you listen to them you'd be amazed at how completely different they are, but when they come together......something amazingly unmatched happens. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 They write and produce 90% of their own music. I suggest Taylor Mari's guide to Bangtan or The extended guide by Purple Snow. This was their first all english song. They released it during covid to cheer international ARMY up. The second was a summer bop called Butter. The BEST live version of Butte is the live grammy performance. Be prepared to have your socks blown off.

BTS's roots are in the underground. The first two members were underground rappers/producers and the third was a street dancer. The vast majority of idol rappers and hiphop performers use the aesthetic without studying the roots or listening to original hiphop artists (they mimic other idol rappers and have other people write their lyrics). From the beginning, BTS not only brought their authentic love for hiphop into what they do, but they have always had creative control and are heavily involved in writing and production, working closely with their in-house staff. In 2017, despite the downplay and dismissal by their homeland, they got so big they won a Billboard Award for Social Artists. The first Korean act to ever break through. The social media numbers came simply because they were cut from broadcasts back home, and kmedia refused to give them any support. So, they began directly talking to fans through social media. It was their shoestring budget and desire to connect that created a template for what every content creator tries to do these days. After that 2017 win, we saw an EXPLOSION of other kpop acts suddenly activating social media accounts (or revamping them) and posting the type of content BTS had been putting out for four year by that point. We also saw the "Big Three" companies -- who dominated the market until BTS came along -- start pushing bands to "compete" with BTS. - SM created "The Avengers of Kpop" by pulling the "most popular member" from its groups and clumping them together. Essentially gutting those successful groups, upsetting fans, and ultimately failing. - YG ramped up their girl group BlackPink, sending them down the American talkshow list that BTS had already blazed a trail down and branching into western festivals and events. (Those girls really do kill it, though -- no shade.) - JYP did an audition show that sought out writers/producers and talent to recreate the similar appeal of BTS's self-realized group. This created Stray Kids. (JYP is close friends with BTS's CEO, who actually started at JYP. Stray Kids members and BTS members are friends.) So when people say BTS paved the way.... it ain't a lie.

The phenomenon of BTS is that all 7 guys are very different but each of them is extremely talented, unique and amazing in his own way. If you listen to them, you will never be disappointed because they simply don't have bad songs. You can always choose music to your taste among their content. Just wanted to comment on your point about conveying emotion… I think one thing that BTS does better than many performers is in imbuing their music with great emotional sincerity. Even without knowing the lyrics (a whole treatise in itself), you can feel what they’re trying to convey.

The all-English songs BTS released in 2020-2021 (Dynamite, Butter, Permission To Dance) are all great pop bops that are particularly useful to open the door to BTS for westerners who are not familiar with them But TBH, none of those songs are particular favorites of long-time fans, even though we love them and are grateful to BTS for releasing them to bring up our spirits during Covid and BTS' cancelled world tour It's the rap/hip-hop, neo-R&B, & ballads in Korean and Japanese that we ARMY hold dearest. Because BTS truly shines when making their own music (the English songs are rare written-&-composed-by-others tracks) I'm so happy to see you go outside your wheelhouse and explore something completely different - I used to only listen to alt-rock and accidentally stumbled upon BTS 7 years ago, and now I pretty much only listen to them. It's crazy. But they have such a diversity of music genres within the group's history, as well as all the different vocal/rap combos and solos they can do with seven members in the group, you never experience ear fatigue from hearing the same voice over and over like you do with other artists. I hope you explore their sound and continue to enjoy! 💜

I notice color and color schemes, too! The founder of BTS, Bang Si-hyuk, has a degree in aesthetics, and it shows. The directors he chooses are top-notch color-coordinators. Through BTS's 11 years, you'll find a wide variety of color schemes to in their wide variety of music videos and stages. Re: Dynamite and 1970's colors. * This MV reminds me of the wide-leg pants I wore in the 70's in middle school. I had 3 pair: green, blue, and yellow, all in very pale shades, like the last scene of the MV. And my prescription glasses looked like V's shades. Really! * BTS at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards: all in suits of maroon red, much like my maroon blazer and skirt outfit circa 1975. Bonus: This performance was a cool jazz band version with lots of brass and soulful backup singers! * BTS performing Dynamite @ the Grammys: orange, yellow, green, and white? That's 1970's home decor earth-colors: burnt orange, avocado, ivory, and harvest gold. Kitchen refrigerators and stoves in these dingy colors were sickening to me in the 1970's, but the BTS version was beautiful: 2 x clean dreamsicle orange, 2 x deepest evergreen, 2 x warm winter white, and one bright sunflower yellow accent. The gaudy, goofy flower prints of the 70's were replaced by a subtle brocade flower texture you can see in the close-ups. * My favorite color scheme*: "BTS: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert" on the NPR channel. Bonus: 2 other iconic songs in addition to Dynamite, a cozy informal atmosphere, and their live band for concerts. * I'll let you find out the colors on your own! 💜💜💜 (The purple hearts are another color story for another day...)

Hi from South Africa, I am 51 year old ARMY, our BTS is 3 rappers and 4 VOCALISTS , BUTTER AND DYNAMITE WERE AROUND THE PANDEMIC time , as a group and individually they are a force to be reckoned with , they have work their asses off to get where they are today , my Bias is Suga a rapper , they have songs in so many different genre's pop , hip hop ,edm, even Latin pop , songs like black swan , spring day , on , Mic drop are awesome , most of their songs are written and produced by the boys themselves so their talents are numerous , thanks for reacting and Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🇿🇦

What'd I tell ya? These guys are what got me in Kpop. But you should understand it was not easy for these guys in the beginning. They did not become overnight stars, not by a long shot. They faced racism and hatred from the very beginning which turned into actual death threats against some of the members. It got so bad, they talked about disbanding in 2018. You should look into "A Guide to BTS Members: The Bangtan 7 to truly understand their struggles. Then look into their earlier music. Their first one was No More Dreams. Then go to Dope, Danger and We are Bulletproof. Just a few for you to check out for now.

Jimin yes extremely high but don't be fooled you should also hear is deep growls they are always a 'Who on earth was that' moment. He looks like a sweet little angle he's in fact a martial arts expert who puts some of the amazing flying kicks and flips into the dances. He's a contemporary dancer but master what ever style you put in front of him. 6 of the members are in the middle of their military service right now and doing amazing have elite warrior status and climbing up the ranks as a tremendous rate. The olderst member is back having completed his military duties in June we have another completing and returning in October then the other 5 returned to use June 2025.

so one thing to know is what paved the way means when armys and many other non bts fans use it to say bts paved the way. paved the way doesn't mean inventing something or being the first to do something. bts are the first in a lot of things but thats not automatically what made them pave the way. bts had no money when they started and their label also had no money bts was their last shot. bts label was called bighit entertainment. many say its now called hybe but its not. its called bighit music which is a private subsidiary under hybe labels. hybe labels is not a label its a corporation with many labels under it. bighit music being the only private one which means higher ups and investors can not force bighit music artists to do anything. hybe gives them funds and helps with legal stuff but they have no hand in bighit music's artists music. theres 3 artists under bighit music currently and is the same 3 artists from before hybe existed. BTS, Lee Hyun a soloist, and TXT. all other hybe groups are under separate labels. many dont have the same dynamic as big 3 labels which are actual labels not corporations. anyways so bts and bighit entertainment started broke this was bighits last shot at debuting a group that would succeed. the ceo is a music producer and used to work at other big kpop labels but he hated the artists treatment, he hated the complete control and he hated artists being limited to just performing not truly able to contribute to the process. he branched off making his own label had a few typical kpop groups but they weren't the success he imagined eventually only had 1 member left named lee hyun who stayed as a solo artist writing beautiful ballads for older generation. but bang pd the ceo decided he would make a hip hop group that demands authenticity in music and as he started looking for the members he realized hip hop is a great start they won't discard that but they would stay underground if he doesn't do this next step which he didn't want to do but had to to give this group a shot at sticking around. so he then changed to making a hip hop IDOL group. many rappers left they never wanted to be idols but 3 stayed. 2 joined the group one became a producer under the label. then the other members came in dancers, singers, a actor etc and they all trained to be bts. they wrote their own lyrics mainly the rappers while the singers learned how. they released predebut songs they wrote and it was a mixtape basically write your own lyrics to the beat of someone elses songs so many songs they did either as mixtape or covers or renditions etc after debut in 2013 they made songs based on school everything from harsh educational system in korea to love songs etc they didn't get that much success but they decided by 2015 to switch it up. this is where some guides make a huge mistake. bts don't ditch hip hop genre or influence in their music but they expand genres and change their visuals aesthetic from dark colors to brighter colors. after this shift it wasnt due to genre changes but mindset trying to be more yourself than portray someone youre not. and they kept growing from here due to them being authentic in every way possible. the problem was that starting in 2013 with no money and the label barely holding on before dropping into bankruptcy. they needed what many kpop groups have as success which is instant success in the first few months if you debut from a big label. but all the small labels were always at a disadvantage. no money or connections to get opportunity in the kpop industry. so bts had to use social media made unedited logs about their day. did so much real authentic content online that most artists dont do unless theyre indie. which brings the point even tho bts are a "kpop group" even tho they signed to a label etc they were in fact like indie artists in almost every way. so they talked to fans on Twitter directly not monitored by the label. they made logs they did all konda of contents behind the scenes of their albums and music videos etc etc bts started to grow internationally before they even got bigger in korea. bts couldn't get on tv shows of any kind whether it was small american idol esque concerts that are called music shows or variety shows which are game shows. new groups get invited there to show the public their personalities so more people become fans. but since they had little opportunity they had to do that online. this started the paved the way steps before anyone even knew who bts was or where theyll go. this authenticity in social media and lyrics about their own lives, experiences and opinions made them grow and keep growing internally. slowly in korea too but not as fast. during this growing period many got jealous and threatened by bts success growing so many tried to tear them down. whether it was underground rappers, other kpop labels, other kpop groups, kpop fandoms, the public, the media, show hosts and venues etc everyone looked down on them and treated them horribly. this was all external they did not get mistreatment from their label. eventually bts kept growing surpassing the biggest artists in korea and winning America awards which then made them huge in korea. because the big kpop labels are in control of korean media so they kept bts success from getting big in korea until it was impossible to ignore. directly talking to fans without monitored by label, paved the way. using social media besides for announcements but for personalized contents, paved the way variety/game shows online with no major tv network affiliate, paved the way, using social media engagement to grow, paved the way many groups opened Twitter accounts in 2017 when bts got their first billboard award. having kpop albums distributed into the states and globally in stores like target or Wal-Mart, paved the way. the niche kpop fans had to always purchase through korean websites and ship it to themselves but now you can find kpop albums in target. that was started by bts and army, army is bts fandom and armys went to target all over the states asking for bts albums every day until american music associations contacted korean music associations to officially distribute korean music in american stores. that paved the way. so many more reasons and steps how bts paved the way. bts weren't the first kpop group ever and they weren't the first to try to get big in the west but things bts did that other groups didn't is what made them make it easier for other groups to follow behind them. if bts is the one that made it easier and they had trouble doing it this means no one made it easier for bts. automatically shows groups before bts didn't pave the way. hope this helps a bit to understand. bts are 7 artists who come together for the group. all have solo music since 2015 or even prior because theyre able to be a group and release solo music too. and they do all genres. they dont just do love songs. they have many songs on deeper topics. as well as they have full control so songs they don't participate in are a choice by the member or group not forced to do by the label. bts money built hybe. so hybe can not touch bts career. again hope this helps to understand deeper if you have any questions please ask :)

Thanks for your reaction. This is one of their most poppy songs released to cheer us up during pandemic. The group had its beginnings being a more hip hop group... over time it diversified handling genres such as: R&B, Pop, EDM, Rock, Jazz There are a rap sub unit within the group and a vocal sub unit where the rappers have few songs by themselves and the same with vocal line... But most of their songs as a complete group combines rap and vocals in Korean with a little of english I'm an Army but I do like other kpop groups although I can't consider myself a fan of those groups because I don't know them that well. I know a little more about Stray Kids and I think that their sound and visuals do represent the Kpop style a little more and I also know that they are very involved in the composition of their songs just like BTS and I respect them for that For me, BTS seems a little more versatile and they usually have many songs with deep themes (one of the many reasons why they have a solid fan base) In Kpop I think there is something for all tastes and Eventually you will see which are your favorite groups... I only recommend, don't compare the groups too much with each other because Kpop fans tend to be very passionate and defend their favorite group a lot... I'm not saying it for myself, I'm a 44 year old woman and I don't fall for that but I only give you that suggestion so that you avoid unnecessary criticism of your reactions Let me give you some song suggestions... I am of that age that grew up in the age of metal, rock, hard rock, progessive rock were big. I dig them all. Now I'm a hardcore BTS stan, even while I still listen to metal and rock. BTS came into my life out of the blue. They say you find BTS when you need them the most. For me it was after my 2nd divorce. I was that emotionally unstable and clingy women who couldnt make do without a guy. I'm now a changed a person, totally liberated and happy. As a metal fan you have chosen the most pop of the pop songs in English a disco pop song to cheer up the post covid world. That's why it's in English. It's not representative. If you want to understand BTS the best way is to watch their iconic mind boggling performance at an award show the 2019 MMA the final performance metal heads seem to really enjoy ... but really you would be doing yourself a massive disservice not to watch the whole thing. Yes it's one of 3 that were bought out in Covid to help them and us the fans feel better give a smile and up and dancing even if it was only in our own homes. All 3 along with 3 other song were the 6 songs that dominationed the number 1 spot on the USA billboard hot 100 Chart at the number 1 spot for weeks on end they kept leapfrogging each other lol.

This was the first BTS mv I ever watched. I mostly listen to 80s pop, acappella and choirs, so quite different for me. My daughter moved home during COVID to help out (hubby is disabled, I'm the caregiver.). I knew she liked BTS, she and friends flew to concerts from our home in WY. So when Dynamite came out I watched. Then I watched everything I could find. Mikrokosmos is my fav song, especially love their lives. TIP Live 'mix' to avoid the copyright claims, and showing the Bighit beginning logo will help avoid blocked videos if you do more. Their BTS written songs have deep meanings and lyrics, so use cc.

37 years old fan since 2016-2017. I recommend : ON, FIRE, NOT TODAY, FAKE LOVE, IDOL, and MIC DROP. the only one with a high range is Jimin. They all have singles, and different styles of music. The members are currently in the military but before they went they made songs for the fans(ARMY is what they call the fandom) . the members have been through so much it’s crazy. To put it simply- you need to listen to their non English tracks. They are amazing and while I like their English songs, they kind of stand alone as ones they wrote during the pandemic to make people happy. The rest of their stuff is diverse and mostly very different. Mostly hip-hop, rap, edm, some ballads.

You should check out on attack on Bangtan live if you want raw performance and mic drop, ON and NO are also good songs. They got so many songs it is difficult to list them all out. BTS got all the genre to go to. Their rap line is very unique in their rap but you need to go and watch the explanation made by the fans to know what they are talking about ( culture ). There are many interpretations but it make you think. BTS is strong in their stage performance and their songs usually have deep meanings and make you think about the topics they want to talk about. Also they have their solos songs before going to the military and coming back as a group in 2025. They got so many contents in the songs and variety shows that it will last you in years and I am not kidding not to mention the fan made content.

I love most of the title songs, but if you start looking at there albums you will find a collection of everything from ballads, to rnb, to rap, there are some that I find that are so fun to listen to, they are not the title songs, but they are upbeat and make me happy. 21 century girl, Am I wrong, Attack on Bangtan, Blanket Kick, Go Go, Anpanman, Boyz with Fun, On (the drumline alone gets me), then some of my favorites more ballads Spring Day, Save me, I'm Fine, Born Singer, Mikrokosmom, and so many more!! I always find it funny that new international fans start with Dynamite and Butter and then don’t know just how good their Korean music is. I started with BTS in the early days and while I love Dynamite and Butter, their Korean music is my favorite. If u like edgie music you should start with rap line's songs ( BTS rap line members: RM, Suga aka Agust D, J Hope) ! All three have released both solo albums and mixed tapes! The vocal Line ( Jin , Jimin , V , JungKook aka JK ) has also released solo songs and albums ( except Jin who released only a song in collaboration with Coldplay before his military enlistment but he will release his solo album before the end of this year! All 7 members prepared and released solo albums during their hiatus from group activities ( a hiatus taken in order to prepare for their mandatory military enlistment). Their fandom known as ARMY is the only fandom in the world that during their hiatus and military enlistment received more music than any other fandom in the world! All their albums had number one songs in Billboard 100/200 and other digital platforms! Believe me, as a Gen Xer born and raised during the "British invasion" ( Rock , punk rock,alternative rock and pop etc), BTS are a phenomenal group!
