Nice review. For information, the slap switch below the throttle is called HOBO switch (Hands On Black Out). It's on the current F-16 and is used to be able to cuts all non-NVG friendly lights from the cockpit. So pretty cool to seeit in this replica.

Really enjoy how you break down everything. Even though they sent you this. You politely have a way of saying "hey, this is a bit mushy feeling". Immersion is very important to a lot of Sim players. The fact this is a 1:1 of the real thing. Would for sure be an instant purchase for those players. Kind of like the way people get a different steering wheel for every kind of car they can. To simulate the real thing. Thank you, for such an in depth look at this.

Hello fellow Tucsonan! I really liked your review and I 100% agree that they should have included the JFS switch!! I noticed that you failed to say about the gear handle that it was supposed to light up and the wheel lights as well as seen in the video preview from the FS Expo video, don't know if you have watched it, if not look it up. I also wanted to say if you know that BullFrogSim is working on a v2.0 version of KTUS airport. Thanks again!

Hey Bud ...I keep coming back to Overkill for reviews & opinions & wasn't disappointed. I ordered one this week ...it should be here in two days. ($828. (after TAX) in Canada, free shipping in 4 days)! My X-56 broke ...MY FAULT ...I did fix it, but no longer have the dual throttle feature (that I NEVER used). It is an excellent HOTAS & I'll still use the stick, until I get the Warthog stick. But I'm gonna LOVE this TQS. I like the plug & play feature for DCS ...I'm lazy & to be honest, I just cannot use the keyboard, so the 6 MFD's I have in my Rig do all that I need & keep me busy remembering button bindings. It is nice to just have it DONE & working for us!

If its anything like the warthog, the three-position switches are still usable without the programming software, at least in DCS. Drivers are obviously a must. DCS uses null-state settings in their controls now, something they did not have five years or so ago. If you build your own panels like I have you used to run into the problem of DCS only registering 'on' states for switches, meaning you would have to toggle them "on" twice to cycle them. This was even worse with on-off-on switches that most of the three-way ones were. You had to literally go into the XML files and code in the null states to allow them to work properly between the on and off positions, and making that worse was that every module had different names and syntax for things. I messaged back and forth with one of their hardware people to get my A-10 armament panel box working, and stressed numerous times in our chat that they needed a built-in null-state configuration for some switches as self-built panels are becoming huge. They finally did this a few years ago. You can usually find them under the HOTAS header in controls and will often be labeled "Master Arm-Arm else Safe" and "Master Arm- Train else Safe" or such style. I can't say I'll drop my Warthog for this Viper one, but if it is anything like the warthog, it'll be fine feeling and hold up well. Always register it with them for the warranty. I've had a few self-caused issues over the many years I've had mine, and TM was ALWAYS happy to help me out, including sending me a new throttle housing, second day air, from France, for no charge.

You can select off position for switches on DCS now. So for a three position, select the on in both "ends", then configure both again for the middle, just select off for each button in the drop down. Obviously this throttle will come with a pre-configured profile from Wags. 😉

Is it possible to separate that panel from the throttle when you buy them together? Would be awesome to see how they're put together as it would open up some possibilities with home cockpits.

I had a similar spot on the warthog that felt less quality than everything else. The throttle arms, and the lock that holds them together. Everything on it is just awesome, but that lock kind of sucks and the fact that the arms for the throttle are so plastic makes them feel a little flimsy compared to the rest of it. I don't know if it's just a surprise because the rest is so good or if I'm being picky.

As much as I enjoy flight simming, too much money to spend on controller for a game I enjoy a few hours out of the week. This would be for those who live and breath flight simming as if it were a full time job. Pass for me, $529 could be spent on more inportant things in life.

It can be mounted like the Warthog throttle, from the bottom. Very nice hardware, but it's overpriced, my opinion only.

It has the same bolt pattern on the bottom as the A10 throttle or the Winwing Orion 2, I think it is an M-5 bolt

use the paddle switch for engine start (seeing as it's not on real grip) then you can still use the default switches. Just seen that you all ready use the paddle as recentre (should watch till end before commenting) 😁
