Great video. Yes when you search "truck bed rack with a dirt bike" only Lietner ACS will show up. Everything else falls short. Even my own home-made ideas are not so good. I have owned Jeeps for 30+ yrs and it pulls my overland/RTT trailer just fine. But add the new dirt bike and I am out of luck. What you (and Lietner) have done is exactly what we need for having BOTH the rack and ability to carry our bikes. My F150 XLT FX4, 6.5 bed is delivered in January, and I will work to spec it out exactly the same as you have. RotoPax/91 Fuel, max traks, shovels, water, air. Everything you have is logical for a day (or week) on the trails. and yes, the BuiltRight molle panels are fully in my plan. and you answered my question about using both sides of the ACS for mounting. AND still get the bike loaded and close the tail gate. Love everything about what you have done. subscribed!!!

Cool to see a sharp looking truck build. May want a bunji around the first aid kit, for high speed offroad driving. I designed and built a rack for my dirtbikes and smaller dual sport bike, slides into the receiver hitch. I designed and had the rack on my 2012 SVT Raptor welded by a master. All aluminum round bar- heavy duty durable.

Hey thanks man, its been a lot of fun. I expected to take a lot more heat on this build, given the fact that most builds are tacomas etc but I wanted to see how we'd make out with a full sized rig build and bring the bikes along and when I need to tow, haul that's still not a problem. Good tip on the first aid kit. I actually added a lock and cable as there is a spot for locking the kit up so its doesn't disappear from thieves but whenever I off-roading I have been concerned that it might come loose but it still hasn't come off. That being said as I rule I prefer to always plan for the worst and hope for the best. Hey, where about are you located and what kind of bike do you ride? Cheers Wadz

I came from your walkaround of the Pando trailers. I live in Honolulu, HI, so I need a “tinker toy” Tacoma since we don’t have a lot of space. I saw an F-150 barely clear their parking garage. Many places height is limited. Where I park a stock height Raptor barely fits.

Great review! Glad to see it done by someone who actually gets use out of their truck, other than just driving to campsites and back home. Your uses seem a bit more mixed and require a flexibility in your chosen rack system. I've seen other very positive reviews on the Leitner system, so I'm definitely giving them some business in the near future.

Ahhhh i had to watch another of your videos and i see you have a dirt bike 😈. Iv been trickn my yz400f for enduro and adventure riding. Hoping to try to do at least half of the tat in the next few years and you have several things on that truck that i want to put on my bike just a lot smaller haha. Those rotopax are one of them, id like to build my rear rack to hold a gallon on each side among other things. Iv found that that stuff is high as gasoline for bikes being so small. Thats a badass truck tho, i like it, you could build a front and rear bolt on bumper thats air tight so you could fill it with air incase you ever needed to air up a tire or mattress or hell a beachball for that matter lol. I had one like that i built on an old Jeep Wagoner i used to have and it came in handy quite a few times blowing beads back on the rim on the trail where you take the valve core out and just blast it open hose. But yeah, thats a nice ride for sure, you can definitely tell that you have many many hours in putting it together.

@WADZUP
@WADZUP 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joseph. If by “up top” you mean on top and attached to the Leiter rack instead of a RTT then yes. The only challenge which doesn’t look very tough is connecting the Rhino to the Leitner rack which I don’t see too difficult eh? This would enable you to carry a lot of gear for sure. Sorry for the slow reply I was it’s late in the WestCoast. Cheers
@socal0buck
@socal0buck 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I spent a couple hours researching it tonight. Of the hundreds of pics of the system on the internet, there are about 30 pics showing a tent on top, and all the videos mention adding a tent. Finally saw one pic showing a rack on top. Maybe that was just too obvious for everyone, or the tent aspect was more interesting. Anyway, this thing is really cool. We have a new Silverado. Thinking about a setup with 2 boxes on one side with 34 inch long Rotopax fuel tanks. One outside and one inside (if it will fit on the inside?), so 8 gallons. On the other other side, one box and 4 MaxTraxs. On top a Rhino pioneer (or similar low profile rack). Truck is 3/4 ton. So will carry our two KTM's (250's) on a hitch carrier. We go to Baja 4-5 times a year. Tired of running out of space, ha ha. Thanks again for the very good video.
@WADZUP
@WADZUP 5 жыл бұрын
Joseph Zeto I had a feeling you were researching with a plan in mind and know the feeling well which is why I wanted to weigh in. I carry the FE501ER with me on most trips and it’s great setup, sounds like a good idea. Leitner is also releasing if not already a double size gear POD that is twice the size of the gear pods I have mounted. I think having one instead of two small ones might be something to consider. Consider what you want to live in these areas for trips. I have the Maxtrax installed on the side of the rack but if I need the space on the side of the rack for more fuel or gear pods they could be easily mounted under my RRT or in your case under the Rhino race as to free up space on the sides of the rack. I would recommend also considering the Outer Limit quick release first aid kit considering how often you travel and ride hard. It comes with a lot of worse case scenarios treatments that most kitschy if not all kits do not supply or think about. Ps one these days the Baka trip needs to happen for riding and Overlanding Any suggestion for planning a trip and riding destinations?...

Wadz, Can you actually have a roof top tent on this system and still have room for the 501 underneath?
@WADZUP
@WADZUP 6 жыл бұрын
Well with difficulties unloading and loading you could with smaller bikes i.e shorter bikes or if you were to lean the bike(s) over a fair bit then yes but the FE501 is one tall bike especially with the upgraded suspension so no can do if running the tent on the Leitner rack. I could put the tent over the cab on the roof if it became a hassle with departure angles while carrying the FE501 on the bumper. Still looking at this option.
@WADZUP
@WADZUP 6 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to get creative you could easily add a 4 inch spacer to the top of the Leitner rack to lift the roof top tent or even lean your bike over alternatively to make it fit. I sometimes carry my 501 in the back of the truck or on the bumper.

Really valid point and in a subsequent video I'll be reviewing and more up close details on the complete first aid kit setup. In terms of security. You can lock up the kit up and when I say lock it up what I mean is you cant open the first aid kit once locked. And by cant' I mean relatively spekaing. Also, I run a cable threw the handle for piece of mind. Also, people have inquired if the quick release is strong enough to hold the kit on while off-roading and some were concerned including myself that it might pop off! So, completing expecting it to fail or come undone if I pushed it hard enough but to my surprise it proved me wrong. I blew over bratty wash board bumps at 60 mph and serious 4x4 into areas with violent jarring bumps and this first aid kit stayed secure. I must say I was shocked given how hard I pushed it.
