Ronny, Excellent video as always and one that I've been waiting for you to post. While there is no replacement for "snap-lock" (zipper lock here in the States) bags, for portioning I use my vacuum sealer. I make my own bags from a roll so they are the exact size that I need and It gives me the most compact, waterproof, and longest lasting method of containing food. It also makes organizing for trips easier since I can buy in bulk and take out what I need by the number of servings. Also, I pack all of my liquids (ketchup, sauces, etc) in their own container lined with a garbage bag. This way, if something does spill, I can simply throw the liner away without having to wash my container or getting everything else nasty. Snap-lock bags are great for this also. Can't wait for Part 2!

Ronny, not sure if you cover it in part 2 but you can use snap lock bags for vacuum sealing your food whilst out camping. simply add food push as much air out as you can with your hands, snap up bag 99% and insert into a bucket of water with the small open part of bag above the water. water will push all the air out then close the last 1%. whola.

One thing to keep in mind, the food expatriation dates don't mean the food is bad on that day, it's just the day that stores could no longer sell it. Most of that stuff would last years past the expiration date providing it's stored properly.

Good Tips, thanks Ronny. I had it all right food/water wise (although 2 containers is a great point) in my setup up but it is all stuffed into the vehicle randomly. I need to get organised space-wise. Something I can do today on this rainy WA day. My camera gear takes up a huge amount of space so I am surprised I haven't done this sooner. Cheers. See you out there...

The old ammo case filled with backup tucker trick. I have one packed in my shed with pretty much the same stuff. Four things in mine you don't seem to have, tinned jam, sweetened condensed milk, rice cream and a 1kg bag of flour in a glad bag for emergency damper (if it's been a while, check for weevils before you go bush.) For one thing, the sweet stuff is loaded with sugar which is good for quick energy and for another, I don't know about you but if we're down to rations, billy tea and a hot damper with some jam is going to be a bloody good morale booster. Subbed btw. Always been into camping, just getting an interest in offroading now. I'm up in Cairns so I'm spoiled for options.

Ronny maybe this should wait till part 2 but if your going off on a trip for a few days and it's bumpy it's horrible to open your food box and find a cracked egg and egg over the entire box. Now before I go on a trip I crack the eggs into zip lock bags but them into a take away container and then freeze them. Then when out camping the night before I take a few out the freezer but them into the fridge to defrost overnight ready for the next day. They now can't be broken, they stack really easily as they are now a cube shaped and frozen they can last up-to a year.

Deny Murphy the satisfaction of ruining your overlanding trip, in addition to more than one container of water, have a way to filter/purify water. Recovering contaminated water / making sure found water is safe can be the difference between a desperate situation and a annoyance.

Good video, great tips. I personally like to use multi fuels AKA (white gas), stoves and torches etc. Cheaper in cost than fuel canisters and easier on the environment. And in a pinch or your down and out, most gear can burn multi fuels like, petrol, grain alcohol, and diesel etc. Not the best for cooking eggs and bacon, but at least you can boil water, or warm yourself up...lol. If you're traveling in areas with ample water, that's not chemically polluted, dry food is easier to carry. A decent filter and boiling will clean "biologically" dirty water and allow you to re-hydrate dried food as well as providing drinking water. In a "water rich" environment, one could easily carry 2-3 weeks of food in a 50caliber ammo can. Mixing freeze dried fruit with grains and dried meats(jerky) work really well. Add in some small packs of "add water" pancake and biscuit mixes, divided for personal consumption and your ahead of most people. A small catapult(slingshot) and some oil to fry...

This vid was great timing for me Ronny. I'm off to Ninghan station and Holland Track (separate trips) over the next 7 weeks. I assume you will cover cryovacing in the next vid? Also, can you cover off cooking equipment like your little single burner cooker? Finally, what's happening with the tray? Are you building a new canopy? Once again, thanks for such practical and relevant videos.

Canned vegetables and the like can last for FAR longer than the printed date. They've recovered canned goods from hundred-year-old shipwrecks, including canned oysters, and the food was all still safe to eat. (The texture and appearance had deteriorated, of course, but nothing dangerous)

Personally I'm a big fan of the white gas stoves over gas cartridge stoves because you can get dual fuel stoves. It's probably a bigger deal here in the US because most our vehicles are running unleaded gas instead of diesel so my backup jerry cans of gas double as backup jerry cans of stove gas. Although I rarely have the issues since a tank of white gas seems to last forever compared to the canisters. amzn.to/2aPcas1

Hi Ronny Thx for the great videos & informative content. Is it possible to do a "fault finding" or " trouble shooting" video "?. The reason for this is that I went out on a drive, rocky conditions with some sand, plenty of axel twists, my car now has a sound emulating from the suspension I think, but cannot simulate the effect when stationery,, Can you please do a video on how to "fault find"? Thanks again for the awesome videos
