in 1990 me and a buddy drove to scorpion bay in a '63 gmc truck we had just finsihed and engine rebuild on. we stayed there for a month living on a warm keg of beer and cup o noodles. we were so young and careless. we made it though, no issues, a few breakdowns but nothing major.

I have recently driven my 24 foot motor home from British Columbia to La Paz and back. I would recommend "Camping Mexico's Baja" by Mike and Terri Church as a good guide book for travelling in Baja. They list many side trips of varying difficulty. Note that you CANNOT necessarily camp on any beach that you happen to drive to. Some beaches are part of Ejido(communal) Land. You may just need to ask for permission or pay a small fee. Keep enough Peso on hand to fill up your tank as once in a while you will come across a Pemex that cannot take credit cards. While on the subject of gas I should mention there is a stretch of Hwy 1 from El Rosario to almost Guerrero Negro that is 195 miles with no gas stations so always fill up in El Rosario or Guerrero Negro.

The Mexican Tourist Card (commonly called FMM) is free if you will be in Baja for less than 7 days. Also, while you can complete the from online, it is only valid if stamped by a Mexican immigration officer at the border. Thanks for another great video.

Great vid. Your last point was good. Always go with at least another vehicle. It's always good to have someone to help you in recovery, emergencies and protection.

My boss sent me and a friend on a cruise to San Lucas and the entire time I wished I had done it as a road trip. It's definitely now on my 5 year plan to overland it.

Nice video. Michael is correct that you don't need a Vehicle permit(TIP) for Baja, but anyone considering taking the ferry to Mainland should get a TIP at the border upon entry. The ferry port in La Paz has not been consistent on whether or not they provide TIP and if they say no, you'll have to go back to the USA border to get one.

Same goes for the Sonoran Free Zone (the northwest corner of Sonora, MX), you won't need a TIP or Visa if you stay in the free zone

Hey besides not bringing fire arms into México you also should never bring ammo it is the same crime as bringing guns, check your car before even an empty shell can cause you problems. Safe trips and hope you enjoy Mexico

If you just want to visit TJ, park your car in the border lot or better yet, in San Diego and take the Trolly down to the crossing- Then hire a Tijuana Taxi...

Way easier to deal with Pesos. The merchants in the smaller towns may not know the current exchange rates. Most Pemex stations will take credit cards also.

Is Low sulfur diesel readily available in Baja? Thank you.
@OverlandBound5 жыл бұрын
This is VERY hard to confirm but anecdotal evidence has been suggesting that the fuel in the Southern Baja is now ULSD with one sample tested at 6.3ppm, however, Pemex will not confirm.
