i would run a couple bolts through to hold those solar panels, i would not just trust short screws in plywood, after a bit of rain they will not hold especial at highway speeds....yikes!! great to see you back at it!
@redbulletlive
@redbulletlive 4 жыл бұрын
Id have to agree. Self tappers like to rip out of plywood pretty quickly. Even when I put lags through plywood its better, but when the wind gets under that gap between the roof rack and panels it might pull up on them. At least two bolts through each panel would be good.

So happy for Jimmy. You guy's saved his life that day. Solar panels are the best investment you can make. Take care . Thanks for the update.

Jake- love the build out on this beast; suggest getting PORTABLE panels for your solar addition, to supplement your roof rack set, so you can move them around once at a site. As in, park the vehicle in shade....but run extension lines to your portable set/direct sun. Has MANY advantages. And we could all use MORE power off grid.

The 100 watt Goal Zero panel I have is plenty to run my Dometic fridge and charging accessories. 200 watts should be more than enough. Looking good Jake!!

Long time sub here. Love the old school FSJ especially in the olive drab. I just recently bought a 78 Chief in the brilliant blue and I'm so excited to start working on her! Thanks for the inspiration brotha! Be safe out there!

@@johnrichardson4327 Such a shame. These are some of the best SUVs ever built and it saddens me to see mot of them left to rot. If you have any tips or inside knowledge that could help my build I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm thinking of starting my own channel on it.

Go to lowes or home depot and get ya a couple of pieces of thick clear acrylic and mount them to the panels to protect them during off roading excursions, and potential hail damage. Also whenever you are filling up fuel at gas station, grab the window squeegee and climb on top and use it to clean off the panels. They get dirty super fast and will reduce your usage by 20-30% sometimes.

How beautiful! There's benefits to staying in one place for more than a couple of days. Be careful that you don't fry the alternator when using the Jeep as a generator. We blew up one of our cars that way. Hugs! 💜💜💜

Wouldn’t in series the current passes through the panel with shade? Only downside would be if a panel is damaged there is a risk current wontpass through it as it will interrupt the circuit.
