With all the added weight with your build, try looking into re-gearing your differentials into a better ratio. Keep in mind the weight of your rig and also your tire size. Though this process will not so much help with your speed, it will really come through with your gas mileage and prevent engine strain. Love the channel!!!

What you were talking about at the start, happens with my 100 when it's fully loaded. The auto and the cruise control does struggle to find a comfortable rev range. I'd reccomend some weight reduction. Switch to alloy rims instead of steelies, saves 50-60kg depends on what rim size

You're amazing and you have great videos. I use to do what you are doing back in the early 90's (I live in Vancouver). It was just called "going off road" back then, no such term as "Overlanding". I then fell into the corporate life, family life, kids, minivan, soccer etc. I've been wanting to get out for years. For now I'm living vicariously through you and your videos. Keep up the great work, and keep up on your travels.

Thank you (again)! You continue to amaze and inspire me!! Sooooooo much to say, but perhaps for another day... Two tips for you: #1. Attach a small drawstring pouch to your ignition key; place your valve stem caps in the pouch whenever you take them off. The pouch will remind you to check for caps when you go to start your rig. #2. Not sure if you've already changed your gearing yet (I may have missed that episode)? If you haven't, you may want to look into it. A lot of people consider re-gearing when going to a larger diameter tier; however, re-gearing will also help with highway speeds even if you keep your current size. Changing the gear ratio (re-gearing) will help your transition to compensate for any extra weight (gas/gear/guests/etc.), while keeping your RPM and gas mileage where it normally is. Liquid is HEAVY,, and a full sub tank can really bog your engine down. Add gear to the roof, a hill and a strong headwind and your transition will struggle/surge when trying to maintain highway speeds. Gearing will help address this.
@OverlandLady3 жыл бұрын
Great idea on the pouch. But when airing up i need the vehicle to stay on to power the compressor so bit of a hassle to go back to the driver side each tire... ya regear will help. I don’t have it yet but will be considering

hi! #overlandlady This problem of not reaching a certain speed soon or reaching 120 kph is solved by installing a turbocharger, your toyota admits that possibility, a 300hp one is enough so that you have enough power, without excesses and you can get enough energy to walk at good speed and which will also improve off road performance!

Quick guy line tip, attach a capable carabiner to the end so you can quickly attach it and skip tying knots. If the receiving end is somehow too small to clip a carabiner, attach a key ring, then clip the carabiner to it!

Altitute = air intake cfm and gear ratio. Can be tricky but there are a lot of info out there on the subject. Remember gear it so you can off road good but still drive on the highway.

About the valve stem cap for your tires. We use short valve stem extensions on big trucks here in the US. You don't need to take them off to put air in or let it out and still keeps dirt and mud out of your valve seals

Hello, I enjoy your videos and spirit of adventure! I am a long time Land Cruiser owner, having many since 1978. My current rig is a 100 series. I use only premium grade fuel, and when available, ethanol-free fuel! I upgraded the suspension to Old Man Emu with a 2" lift. Tires are Yokohama Geolander A/T 285/75R16 (10 ply). I am not sure of your lack of power issue in the mountains. The only time I lost power was when I lost two coil packs and she was only running on 6 cyl. Good luck!

Moniqe, CBC Weather Scientist "cant recall her name" said that the real danger in a fire is wind. Wind carrier fire brands down wind and starts spot fires. She said STAY out of the forest if its in the middle of a severe drought. Also, winds over 30km/h, Tempatures over 30C and Humidity under 30%. These are what causes mega fires in Canada and the United States. I would consider bring a portable fire shelter should you be caught in a forest fire.

Your rig is an import obviously being a right hand drive,. 👍 I am very impressed with you going solo. I am taking a plunge into this lifestyle in a few months; have to get alway from the city and business life. My only experience was boon docking in a Class B RV last summer. While I enjoyed it, the rig had no off-road capabilities. I’ve decided to go with 4Runner TRD Pro. Can’t wait for my truck’s delivery so I can start my build. This life isn't for everyone. Isolation can have positive and negative affect to people. But, I have travelled a lot of the world, often to some remote locations, and the most memorable is sitting alone with only the sound of the wind overlooking a frozen ocean where there are no animals and no sounds of human life. This was a great video and almost suspenseful to find out what happens in the end. It was like petting a dog, I think my heart rate and blood pressure dropped.

Feel your pain with the wind had my old R50 Pathfinder rock pretty good a couple of times up on Chilko lake. The wind shifted and the side rather than the front. Garbage sucks, I clean up every site I am at, if there is garbage. But at the end of a long day hitting the site you planned on with a bunch junk scattered around tends to take you down a notch. I stop, setup, eat and then clean up the site. I find the act of leaving things better for the next guy lifts my spirits a bit. I have enjoyed your channel so far.

2:00 have you regeared already? 7:20 *sigh* this is one of those times that a 70 series troopy w/ an alu cab hercules top would be kinda nice. :P but then there'd be a lot less rooftop storage. 11:30 I was thinking about using wipes, and I did it for a while, but then I just didn't like that the wipes weren't reusable. I've gone to chinatown to pickup small hand towels that I boil during the trip to wipe myself down whenever I need to. When I visited family in China, we didn't have water heaters. Instead, we just boiled a pot of water and poured it into a wash basin and mixed it with some cold water until it was just right. It was perfect for washing everything. lol, though, I was a lot smaller when I was 5. But I ngl, a hot towel on my face feels fantastic at the end of the day. 13:00 also. thank you for taking care of the campsite.
