Perhaps they were hiding out in the shade, but you should see mustangs. I once drove from Gerlach to Soldier Meadows (stayed and rode horses and helped herd cattle) and Summit Lake in a Ford Escape, which handled those roads just fine. It’s neat country. You’re making me want to go back.

Pretty warm, moving into a heatwave by the time we left (triple digits). We ended up staying at the viewpoint for a good 3 hours to escape the heat down at the playa.
