Exploring the hidden gems of CA's North Coast

Come along with the OTG crew as we set out on a rather grandiose overland adventure into the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion that straddles the California-Oregon Adventure. Over the better course of a week, we'll rack up nearly 700 miles of backcountry exploration along some of our favorite OTG Routes like the Steelhead Adventure Trail, Wild Rivers Discovery Trail, and the newly minted Siskiyou Crest Adventure Trail (summer 2023).

Part 1 of OTG's North State and Souther Oregon Adventure
Part 1 of our adventure takes us to Usal Beach along the Mendocino Coast for a quick overnight layover. Ben meets up with Andreas in Arcata, and they head to the old growth redwood forest and clear turquoise waters of the Smith River along the Steelhead Adventure Trail.

Awesome what mix is your puppy Shasta? No way my Husky can be off leash, she is a runner. I have a Ram2500 4x4 with a pop up camper FWC, love it after year of backpack, tent and truck camping. New member to OTG love it. Thanks for the great video.

German Shepard and Siberian Husky, and I agree that if she was 100% husky I probably wouldn't let her roam off leash!

How recent was this trip? Heading there in a few weeks and i keep hearing usal Rd leading to the beach campground is closed. From the looks of the video seems like it’s clearly open lol right?

Usal campground is open. Usual Road just north of the beach remains gated due to numerous downed trees. If you visit, please be sure to camp in the campground and do not drive on the beach.
