Just bought a James Baroud on top of a patriot camper. Used it in the snow once and already love it! Just want an awning and walls now to top it off for those longer stays. Love the tent. 😄

Apparently they are making a new model which tent has a tunnel through the awning!!!

A couple months ago I bought a James Baroud Evasion and my feelings are similar to yours. I’m ok with the ladder, it works fine for me but I can see designing a more elegant solution in the future. I have to say the ease of setup and tear down, along with keeping my bedding inside, the quietness in the wind, and the quality of materials are all my favorite parts.

I'm confused about the windows. Is there both a clear window, to keep heat in AND a screen window for when you want additional ventilation? Or are the windows only screen windows, and so if you wanted to see the outside view and not be cold, you would be out of luck?

We bought evasion model of James Broud, have it on top of my 89 4x4 yota works awesome & doesn't feel top heavy at all , moves a little in strong side winds not bad, would buy it again, if I had it to do again.

I have the same tent, and I pretty much agree with everything here. It's an excellent product, very well made, and a very nice place to be in its own right. It somehow combines a genuine comfort (matress, duvet, pillows etc)but without losing that nice feeling you get from being "outside", in a tent - something that could be lost with a motorhome or caravan, for example. My only caution would be... well it's not for everyone. You must be comfortable going up and down a ladder, and with being over 2m off the ground. Plus, although setting up is dead easy, packing up is a little more tricky as you are not only having to work against the gas struts that are always trying to open up, but generally having to do so at full stretch. I can do it on my own, but I have a good reach and can exert some effort - I can see it being almost impossible for somone of smaller and lighter stature :) It's definitely much easier with two! But with that caveat noted, it really is superb!

That's totally tru! Thanks for sharing your views, Simon!

Guys, another good video. I don’t have a camper. But my small work van I plan to use for weekend trips. I can’t decide if I should sleep inside the van and keep my bike on the roof or set up a tent ( means set up time and sleeping on the ground ) or keep my bike safe inside van and go for the roof tent. Thoughts ? Also the roof tent you can switch to different vehicles, that’s a plus. BTW I am in Scotland so weather is usually wet. Just different temperatures of wet ! Best wishes

I purchased a James Baroud off of the back of this review and other similar reviews on youtube. However, on the model we purchased the Evasion Evolution the mosquito mesh does not prevent mosquitoes getting in. We had to install a mosquito net inside the tent.

I don't have a real criticism for the upgrade but it is really getting down to cost. After spending the amount of time you've spent on the road, your not novices. And I do respect your advice. My roof top tent is an entry level Tepui baja series aluminized tent. I used it for a vacation and currently am saving money sleeping at truck stops until I either find a temporary sublet or house sit for the winter in Maine. I did notice that Tepui is designing more hard shell tents. My VW Golf if probably one of the few I've seen images of on the internet with a roof top tent. The tent is $1,200 or so. Your spending close to $4000... it is liken to buying an RV. The only real inconvenience I have is drying out the tent so mold doesn't accumulate. The Baroud has that covered. I also noticed a group of Jeep owners here in Maine go "overlanding" with their Smitty built tents on logging roads and they love it. But most of us are weekend warriors compared to you two. Best of luck. And safe travels.

Thanks for sharing your point of view, John! The James Baroud are definitely expensive and not for everyone... as I say on the video, I personally think RTTs are a luxury in a way. But we love our James Baroud! Hehehe
