Eva, I just wanted to point out that it is a good idea to have some kind of Carbon Monoxide sensor (detector) every time you have fuel burning heat source. Camping in the winter is awesome, even some pretty casual spots feel amazing and remote. And usually you have them all to yourself. Cheers and happy trails
@MrEvolutionist2 жыл бұрын
thats not what happens with a diesel heater. it doesnt burn a fire inside the tent to create heat. it passes air over a hot diesel 'engine' and that in turn heats the air. so its not burning anything that the air would be exposed to.
@JGMan00112 жыл бұрын
This Atanas is correct and very polite. She did say it was kind of a "makeshift," cheap heating system and that "the most important thing" is that it works. I think the most important thing is that its safe and doesn't kill you while you're sleeping or start a fire while you're asleep. She shouldn't encourage others to just try and make their own makeshift tent heating systems. Atanas is just being responsible. After all she also ignored all the weather/camping warnings and just laughed & "hoped" it would be OK... and didn't bring an ax for firewood, etc, etc. Ignoring weather warnings for camping is also, generally a really bad idea - and bad example. It seems she had friends and a snowcat nearby so she wasn't really in any danger, but that's not the happy-go-lucky impression she gave to her viewers. I hope no-one watches this and goes out to see if they can also survive the night out in the snowy wilderness, then their vehicle gets stuck tens of miles from help and freezes to death or dies of carbon monoxide poisoning.
@fj9460-lr2 жыл бұрын

Beautiful. The snow is too. Camping I always had a 3 foot long 1/2" rubber or plastic tube to blow air into the fire from a safe distance. The concentrated air flow makes any fire making far easier and safer. It can also be used to siphon water or other liquids as needed. Love your vids.

Hi Eva, thanks for sharing a more reachable adventure close to home and good to see you return in good health from your Antarctic adventure! May I give you my two cents as fellow Landrover enthousiast… get SNOWCHAINS 🙉. It might sound silly because you have enough traction to get Odyssey up the mountain. But a set of snowchains on your front wheels will make braking and steering downhill so much safer. Be brave but stay safe!

First time at this channel, most impressive thing in the video is the ability to sit,, or squat rather than relying on having a chair or seat. Very impressive, I had a knee injury and just started working on that and holy crap I don't even have the muscles to make that work. The pain! But apparantly its super healthy for the back and quads,, I think this is the first time I've seen this outside of developing countries where everybody sits like that.

I've done this in Northern U.S. and it's cold and dark. One time the frozen river below we were surrounded by coyotes. You could see they're glowing eyes. You could here them howling. It was a cool experience. The pack came into our camp around 1am and you could unzip the tent and grab one. They were really close.
@da443-galmond42 жыл бұрын
One thing you learned from the Windy Antarctic weather.. if they call for worsening conditions and you get a break in the weather... take it to prepare for the worse, or get out. Having spent many a Winter backpacking in the local mountains of California bad weather can get worse. Lowest temperature we experienced was about -30C(may have been colder but our thermometer bottomed out). Another experience was using a umbrella style tent...and winds started picking up getting very noisy and sometime in the middle of the night we lost it. The local shop said it had to be in excess of 60mph(95kph) to rip out the stays from the tent. As you found in the Antarctic trip...and it a bit cliche when dealing with expeditions in Nature, "Hope for the best. Plan for the worst" Wishing you safe travels here in the US.
