I see what you did there. For mythological context, the Kitsune in question was Tamamo-no-Mae, one of the infamous Three Terrible Yo-kai of Japan, who was a famous trickster and seductress who charmed her way into the Imperial court in order to corrupt and destroy as many monarchs as she could. When she was eventually found out, chased down, and slain, her spirit possessed the rock in question, and her malevolence seeped to the surface as a deadly poison, killing anything it came in contact with. That was, until a priest came along, reconciled Tamamo's spirit, and set her free, thus causing the rock to shatter. Sorry for the nerd-out, I'm just a huge mythology buff, hence why I'm subbed to OSP (and I really hope someone commissions Red to do a video on those three, their stories are actually really interesting)

Tyler McKnight She wouldn't have necessarily ATE him. That's not what spiders do to their prey and (if female) husbands. See, spiders wrap their meal up while still living and then drink all their bodily fluids. So, yeah. If a giant spider lady asks you out and you have kids, she's going to immediately kill you after she's pregnant. Have fun being afraid of spiders!
@typhoonhurricane185 жыл бұрын
@@demonicprinter Well generally; the female can be persuaded NOT to eat the male if he can provide her with sufficient food as a replacement. If the male's gifts are enough to keep the female sated for long enough he can mate with her and get out of there without dying. However given the relatively short lifespan of males most only really bring enough to keep the female busy during sex because it's likely their only chance for it in their lifetime anyway so there's not much need to be concerned with escaping. Translating that into humanoid spider-women; wait on her hand and foot (all 8 of them), constantly feed her and attend to her every whim and she MAY decide to let you live so long as you're useful.

1:20 Honestly, Youkai being translated to Demon is the mother of all mistranslations. Demons are very specifically evil Angel's fallen from heaven. Youkai are spirit-ish creatures that take on all manner if roles, good evil and neutral. Calling them Fae woukd probably be more accurate.
@coltonwilliams41532 жыл бұрын
And that’s why I feel that there’s a connection between the myths of the Britanian archipelago and the Japanese archipelago. Yokai and fae are just way too similar, from how varied their appearances are, to their actions, and even the stories about some of their domains doing weird shit. I think it’s the meridian, combined with where they’re at on their respective plates. The walls between worlds might actually be thinner there.
@torazely2 жыл бұрын
While I agree Yokai being called demons is wrong, demons are actually not Fallen Angels. Fallen Angels are their own class of creature. Demons are the spawn of Adam's first wife Lilith after she was banished from Eden.
@clayxros5762 жыл бұрын
@@torazely Where in the Bible is that? Because the Bible is pretty clear on the origin, and relation, between angels to Fallen to demons. Also to my memory and reading Lilith isn't recorded.
@torazely2 жыл бұрын
@@clayxros576 first off, the Bible has no reference to how Angels or demons came to be. They just show up at some point. Secondly, she's from Jewish folklore, meaning she was most likely purposefully excluded from the Bible when it was being written, considering women weren't allowed much freedom or agency in th past, therefore attempting to validate the sexist male-dominated society by saying that women were purposefully made to submit to men.
@clayxros5762 жыл бұрын
@@torazely The Bible records God's dealing with humans, and therefore describes how Earth was created. Not the Heavens, and by extension Angel's. However Demons are explicitly noted as being thrown out from Heaven, and further following Satan. Demons follow Satan, and aren't differentiated from fallen angels. Thus they are, logically, the same thing. Jewish mythology isn't Hebrew mythology. God disowns them for a pretty clear reason, especially because they were well known (and called out) for mixing their beliefs with other beliefs systems. Lilith isn't recorded in the Bible, thus she didn't exist. Otherwise it would have recorded her and her progeny. You're making alot of assumptions about the Bible. Have you read it or are you mashing this stuff together?

@Dragon born I mean don't get me wrong, i enjoy fairy tales. I almost exclusively read fantasy novels. Made up stories are great. But believeing they're anything more than just fiction is delusional. And yeah, we know also WHY people made these stories up, we can follow the evolution of popular myth tropes through the spreading and branching and mutual influencing of religions thorughout recorded history. We know which tropes and stories and character archetypes the bible adapted from earlier religions or ones contemporary with it. We've even seen in the 20th century how an entire proto-religion based on a fictional person that never existed but that people believe did, can develop over just a few decades - look up the so-called "John Frum" Cargo Cult of Vanuatu.
